Decision Aid in Veterans With Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of a decision aid on veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) presenting for care. The investigators' primary hypothesis is that patients assigned to use the decision aid will demonstrate improved quality of decisions regarding PTSD treatment relative to patients assigned to usual care. Improved decision quality will be examined by assessing patient's knowledge of treatments, evaluation of the risk and benefits, ability to arrive at a decision, and certainty about that decision. The investigators' secondary hypothesis is that patients assigned to the decision aid will be more satisfied with their care and more compliant with their care compared to patients assigned to receive usual care. The investigators will also determine whether patients assigned to the decision aid, relative to patients assigned to usual care, are more likely to receive evidence-based treatments for PTSD and experience reductions in PTSD symptoms.

Effectiveness of Prolonged Exposure of PTSD in a Community Setting of PTSD Sufferers

Post Traumatic Stress DisorderAnxiety Disorder

Introduction: Efforts to bridge the gap between research based treatment modalities advancements and clinical practice have received the highest priority in the research community. In the child psychiatry field there is an urging need to promote bridging this gap. Parents and child health providers hesitate to refer children to child psychiatrist due to stigma but also due to lack of awareness of available and efficient treatment options. In the field of trauma treatment another reason for lack of treatment is lack of recognition of trauma related symptoms in children. After the second Lebanon war scarce referrals to psychiatric clinics have been registered and access to treatment is low as indicated by 20 referrals in the past year to Emek Hospital. We propose to explore the effectiveness of well-established adult treatment for PTSD, the Prolonged Exposure (PE), in community-based general pediatric clinics, serving an underprivileged diverse population. Methods: Twenty children age 6 to 18 attending general pediatric clinic and in Afula region will included. children will be diagnosed using the Hebrew translation of the Childhood version of the Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia (Apter et al., 1989 Children will receive the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) and the. CPSS All subjects will be treated with a manualized 12-week Prolonged Exposure protocol Ratings will be made at baseline, 6weeks, and 12 weeks using CDI and CPSS Hypothesis: 1. PE adapted for pediatric population will be effective in treating single-event traumas in a community setting.

CBT for Anxiety Sensitivity vs. Disorder-specific CBT: An RCT

Generalized AnxietyStress Disorder4 more

Adults with high anxiety sensitivity (AS) and a mental health diagnosis of anxiety, depression, or posttraumatic stress will be recruited and will be randomly assigned to either transdiagnostic cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for AS or disorder-specific CBT for their primary mental health problem. The study outcomes - AS, anxiety, mood, and substance use symptoms, and functional impairment - will be assessed at pre-and post-treatment and 6 and 12 months post-treatment via standardized self-report measures completed by participants and a standardized diagnostic interview.

Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing in the ED and Post-Traumatic Syndrome

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Millions people, all over the world, are admitted in the Emergency Department after a trauma or simply to receive medical cares. In France, it represents 10 million patients. Probably because of stress associated with the event, 20% will suffer a combination of non-specifics symptoms which persist for many months and with daily life quality impairment. The investigators hypothesize that an early intervention, such as Eye-Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) could be performed in the ED and could prevent the occurrence of these symptoms

Liberalization of Visiting Policies in ICU for Reducing High Risk of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder...

PTSD in Family Members of ICU Patients

This was a cluster randomized study of an ICU level intervention to reduce high risk of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in family members of ICU patients. Participating ICUs had restrictive visiting policies (i.e., <6 hours/day) before randomization. After an observational period and a washout period, participating ICUs were randomized either to maintain their visiting policies or to liberalize their visiting policies (24 hours a day, 7 days a week.)
