Evaluation of Spirometry Expert Support in General Practice
Pulmonary DiseaseChronic Obstructive3 moreMore and more general practitioners (GPs) use spirometry in their practices. At this time, there is sufficient reason to presume that, after a single postgraduate training program without any further support, most GPs have insufficient knowledge and ability to assure valid interpretation of their spirometry tests. Therefore, some kind of continuous diagnostic support with regard to spirometry interpretation by GPs is advisable. The aim of the present study is to assess whether implementation of spirometry expert support (either by a computerised expert system or a working agreement between general practitioners and respiratory consultants with respect to spirometry interpretation) causes changes in diagnosing and appropriateness and efficiency of medical care in subjects with chronic respiratory morbidity managed in general practice.
Risk Factors For Asthma in Laboratory Animal Allergy
AsthmaLung DiseasesTo identify risk factors which predispose individuals to develop asthma and other manifestations of allergic disease on exposure to laboratory animals in the workplace.
Inflammation, Autonomic Dysfunction and Airway Disease
Lung DiseasesAsthma2 moreTo determine whether airway inflammation secondary to inhalation of specific allergens and other environmental agents and functional imbalance of the autonomic nervous system played important roles in asthma and chronic bronchitis.
Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis--Pathogenesis and Staging - SCOR in Occupational and Immunological...
Lung DiseasesPulmonary Fibrosis4 moreTo conduct cross-sectional and longitudinal studies of patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and patients with progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS), with and without associated lung disease.
Incidence and Outcomes of Venous Thromboembolism
Cardiovascular DiseasesLung Diseases2 moreTo identify the incidence cohort of Olmsted County Minnesota residents with deep venous thrombosis (DVT)/pulmonary embolism (PE) from 1966 through 1990. Episodes of DVT or PE acquired during hospitalization or in the community were identified for future studies.
Prevalence of Sleep-Disordered Breathing in Children
Lung DiseasesSleep Apnea SyndromesTo investigate the prevalence and clinical significance of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) in children.

AsthmaLung DiseasesTo develop and implement asthma controlling strategies for inner city and high risk populations.
Epidemiology of Sleep Disordered Breathing in Children
Lung DiseasesSleep Apnea SyndromesTo collect fundamental data regarding the distribution of measures of sleep disordered breathing (SDB) in a pediatric population, prevalence of clinically significant SDB in children, risk factors, and associated co-morbidity.
Isocyanate Antigens and T Cells That Cause Asthma
AsthmaLung DiseasesTo investigate whether isocyanate-induced asthma is dependent on isocyanate antigen-driven T-cell mediated, airway inflammation.
