Bronchioscopic Lung Volume Reduction (BLVR)
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)For patients with emphysema, lung volume reduction by insertion of endobronchial valves could be an expedient approach to improve the diaphragm function and the strength of breathing muscles. Therefore in the present study investigators intend to examine, whether the lung volume reduction by valves might improve the physical capacity and the quality of life.
Phenotypic Characterization of Alveolar Macrophages 2016 (Caract-Aires-2016)
Lung DiseasesThe aim of the study is to investigate by flow cytometry the phenotype of alveolar macrophages (AMs) isolated from patients with non-infectious lung diseases.
Nonspecific Low Back Pain in Association With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Low Back PainChronic Obstructive Pulmonary DiseaseIntroduction. Nonspecific low back pain (NSLBP) is a very prevalent medical condition, especially in subjects with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The diaphragm is a respiratory muscle, but it takes part in trunk stabilization on lumbar spine. NSLBP is related to lack of spinal control. The COPD symptoms include lack of efficiency in diaphragm, which could be connected to NSLBP. Hypothesis and objectives. COPD can contribute to NSLBP. It is associated with diaphragm weakness, severity of respiratory function, lower level of physical activity and quality of life in COPD. Methods. A descriptive observational cross-sectional study was conducted with two groups: the first one with subjects with COPD and the second one with subjects without it. Data were collected on: pulmonary function; respiratory muscles strength; trunk postural control; quality of life with COPD; physical activity level; lumbar pain presence, intensity and disability. Data were collected in a single session.
Evaluation of Novel Lung Function Parameters and Quantitative Computed Tomography (qCT) in Patients...
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary DiseaseBronchial Asthma1 moreCurrent diagnostic tools used in pulmonary disease often do not meet the challenges set by the respective pathophysiology. The investigators therefore aimed to evaluate novel or not widely used diagnostic approaches for the detection and therapeutic monitoring of patients with various pulmonary diseases.
Etiologies, Investigations and Outcomes of Patients Presenting With Hemoptysis
HemoptysisHaemoptysis19 moreThe study consist of a retrospective analysis of the etiologies, investigations and outcomes of patients presenting between 2005 to 2010 with hemoptysis in a North-American Tertiary center.
The Differences of Muscle Activity Between Patients With COPD and Healthy Adults
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary DiseaseThe purpose of this study attempts to investigate the differences and relationships of respiratory parameters, muscle activity, and dyspnea during ADL between patients with COPD and age-matched healthy participants.
Interstitial Lung Diseases Cohort Study in China
Interstitial Lung DiseasesIn this project, the clinical diagnosis of interstitial lung diseases was carried out for the population with suspected interstitial lung diseases selected from the community cohort, and the confirmed patients were included into the existing clinical cohort of interstitial lung diseases, forming an interstitial lung diseases special disease cohort consisting of 3,000 patients and corresponding matched control groups. According to characteristics of interstitial lung disease and the needs of National Key R&D Program of China, this study will formulate unified clinical follow-up strategy to do long-term standardized clinical follow-up in patients with interstitial lung disease. The detailed information for clinical diagnosis and treatment as well as biological samples were collected to identify disease phenotype and build the database and biological sample library for interstitial lung disease cohort study. This study aims to provide evidence for molecular classification, screening and validation of biomarkers as well as precise diagnosis and prevention in patients with interstitial lung disease.
Prognosis and Treatment of COPD in Primary Care-use of Biomarkers
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)This is an observational study in primary care aiming to validate biomarkers for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Interstitial Lung Disease Questionnaire
Interstitial Lung DiseaseTo evaluate the health status of patients with Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD), and how this varies between subgroups of ILD. To investigate the prevalence of symptoms, anxiety, depression, and sleep-disordered breathing within ILD patient population. To assess the economic impact of ILD. To understand how self-aware ILD patients are regarding their treatment/management. To compare the demographic details, including smoking status and occupational history, of patients with interstitial lung disease
Pulmonary Vascular Changes in Early Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary DiseaseThe Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) - Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Study aims to characterize the pulmonary vascular changes and their biology in early COPD using imaging, gene expression profiling and peripheral cellular measures.
