Maximal Exercise Capacity and Extra-pulmonary Characteristics in Patients With Lung Cancer With...

Lung Cancer

While lung cancer are rare disease in the early 20th century, its incidence increased in parallel with the increase in smoking habits. It is the most common type of cancer in the world. Despite advances in the efficacy of chemotherapy and radiotherapy regimens, surgical resection is the most effective curative treatment modality to improve survival in non-small cell lung cancer. Pulmonary resection candidates are selected according to not only tumor type and stage, but also functional status, exercise capacity, underlying lung disorders and health-related quality of life assessments. Patients with lung cancer often have lung and heart comorbidities that affect the outcome of the outcome measures and restricts cancer treatment options. In patients with lung cancer, shortness of breath, physical inactivity, weakness in peripheral muscles and exercise intolerance are described. Pulmonary rehabilitation is a multidisciplinary treatment designed to improve exercise capacity, functional status, health-related quality of life and to reduce the attenuation of chronic shortness of breath and fatigue in patients with chronic lung problems. In literature, the effect of surgery in patients with lung cancer on postoperative respiratory muscle strength is not clear. There is no study investigating the effect of chemotherapy and radiotherapy on respiratory muscle strength. For these reasons, the aim of the study was to evaluate the curative period of non-small cell lung cancer patients with reliability and validity assessment methods. The hypothesis of our study was; when compared with patients with lung cancer and healthy individuals, exercise capacity, respiratory and peripheral muscle strength, physical activity levels, sleep and quality of life of lung cancer patients are reduced; dyspnoea, fatigue, depression, cough and pain levels increase.

Connect Oncology Needs Evaluation Tool

Lung Cancer

The purpose of this research study is to evaluate a technology-based intervention, Caregiver Oncology Needs Evaluation Tool (CONNECT), which may increase lung cancer caregivers' knowledge about the benefits of supportive care resources, identify their unmet needs, and connect them with supportive care resources. The investigators will also determine their ability to recruit and keep patients and caregivers in the study.

The Lung Screening, Tobacco and Health Project

SmokingTobacco3 more

The purpose of this study is to compare intensive telephone counseling (ITC) plus the nicotine patch vs. standard telephone counseling plus the nicotine patch (Usual Care; UC) among current smokers undergoing lung cancer screening. Smoking-related outcomes will be examined at three, six and twelve months post-randomization.

Prognostic Factors on Malignant Pleural Effusion

Pleural EffusionMalignant1 more

Malignant pleural effusion can occur in up to half of the patients with metastatic disease. It can cause shortness of breath to patients and so far there is no protocol on its management. The study is looking at patients with malignant pleural effusion and aims to identify its prognostic factors. Pleural fluid and blood analysis will be performed as in the standard of care and results will be collected at the start of diagnosis. This will not affect subsequent management plan. Patients' disease course will be followed up and progress data will be collected. Data will then be analysed to identify relevant prognostic factors.

Evaluation of PD-L1 (Programmed Death-Ligand 1) Tumor Expression in Patients With Large-cell Neuroendocrine...

Large Cell Lung CancerNeuroendocrine Carcinoma of Lung (Diagnosis)

Observational, multicentre, retrospective study on patients taken care according to the national guidelines. The objective is to define, after the diagnosis confirmation, the frequency of PD-L1 expression in patients with large-cell lung neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC), whatever the stage of the disease, and to correlate this parameter to clinical data at the time of diagnosis, therapeutic response and survival. Large-cell NECs present a bad prognostic and there is no evidence of treatment for these patients with advanced disease in second ligne of treatment at that time. To demonstrate the PD-L1 expression in this type of cancer might have a major therapeutic impact in a close future to access immunotherapies.

Treatment Registry of Alectinib in Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase (ALK)-Positive, Locally Advanced or...

Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Alectinib was approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) in Korea in Oct 2016. The purpose of this registry is to investigate and confirm the type and incidence of newly identified adverse events and any other factors affecting safety and effectiveness of the new drug so that the regulatory authority can manage the marketing approval properly.

Responses to Chemotherapy of Patients With Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Harboring a Known Somatic...

Lung Cancer

This chart review describe the response to systemic chemotherapy of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) harbouring a known somatic activating human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) mutation. The analysis of this data will provide an initial description of the response to systemic chemotherapy in patients with NSCLC harboring an activating HER2 mutation in order to inform the design and powering of future randomized controlled clinical trials of HER2-directed therapy.
