Validation of PUFA Index in Assessing Untreated Dental Caries Among Malaysian Adult Subpopulation...

PulpitisApical Periodontitis

PUFA Index was introduced to detect the clinical consequences of untreated dental caries. To date, there are no studies on the reliability and accuracy of the PUFA index as a screening tool. Other than indices, radiographs were sometimes used as a screening tool using the validated Periapical Index (PAI). The aim of this study was to evaluate the reliability and accuracy of PUFA and PAI in screening for clinical outcomes of untreated caries, specifically pulpal and periapical diseases. The reference standard is the clinical diagnosis, as categorized by the American Association of Endodontists. Intra- and inter-examiner reliability will be determined using Cohen's kappa. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value will be calculated. Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) contrast estimation will be computed to compare the two index tests.

Indirect Pulp Capping With Biodentine and TheraCal LC in Permanent Mature Molars

Deep Carious LesionsReversible Pulpitis1 more

Management of deep carious lesions in permanent mature molars with reversible pulpitis represents a challenge for clinicians. Vital pulp therapy includes indirect and direct pulp capping, partial pulpotomy and full pulpotomy. Indirect pulp capping is a procedure in which a material is placed on a thin layer of remaining soft dentin that, if removed, might expose the pulp. The objective is dentin bridge formation and pulp vitality preservation. The aim of this randomized clinical trial is to evaluate the success rate of indirect pulp capping with Biodentine and TheraCal LC in mature permanent molars with deep carious lesions at one-year follow-up examination. The null hypothesis tested will be that there is no statistically significant difference in success rate between both materials in indirect pulp capping of permanent mature molars with deep carious lesions.

Efficacy of Pressure Massage and Topical Gel on Pain During Intra Oral Injections

Normal Pulp/ Pulpitis

Eighty patients with inclusion criteria will participate in this studyEach patient will receive an injection in one of the following groups according to the random number table: Group TPMB: Topical pressure and massage with an Inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) Group TGB: Topical gel of 20% Benzocain (Master-Dent, Monroe, NC) with IANB Group TPMI: Topical pressure and massage with a maxillary anterior infiltration (MAI) Group TGI: Topical gel with a MAI. Immediately after the injection, patients will be asked to record the amount of pain they felt during needle penetration and injection using VAS form.Data will be analyzed using ANOVA and t-test.
