Joining these groups can be beneficial to patients with chronic medical illness, such as psoriasis.This was a cross-sectional online survey of psoriasis patients in the Philippines who are members of online support groups. The survey was conducted for a period of three months.The purpose of the research project was to describe the demographics, disease characteristics, activities and benefits of online support groups to Filipino patients with psoriasis. The extent to which members experience empowering processes and outcomes was also evaluated.

PsoriasisThe impact of psoriasis on an individual's emotional and social well-being goes beyond skin symptoms of the disease. Data suggests patients with severe psoriasis experience a greater prevalence of depressive symptoms, mood disturbances, anxiety and even suicidal ideation. Given the nature of the disease and the treatment failures which are required before a patient commences a biologic therapy such as adalimumab, the patient's mental health at initiation of biologics is an important consideration for clinicians. This study seeks to explore if adalimumab treatment of psoriasis leads to a positive impact on psychosocial factors and disease-related quality of life.
A Study to Assess the Clinical Profile of Patients in Spain With Moderate to Severe Psoriasis.
PsoriasisThe purpose of this study is to assess the clinical profile of patients with moderate to severe psoriasis in Spain. The primary objective is to analyze the clinical profile of patients with moderate to severe psoriasis, as defined by a set of conditions (obesity, hypertension, diabetes, abnormal amounts of lipids in the blood, cardiovascular disease, etc.) and its correlation to the patients' quality of life. The secondary objectives are to describe the demographic characteristics and habits of the patient, to evaluate the clinical characteristics of the disease, and to describe the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures being used in standard clinical practice and the patients' expectations for these therapies.
Cardiovascular Risk Assessment in Patients With Severe Psoriasis Treated With Biologic Agents
PsoriasisAtopic Dermatitis1 morePsoriasis is a common inflammatory disease of the skin and joints with a prevalence of 1-3% in the caucasian population of Northern Europe and the US. Similarly to other inflammatory diseases there is now substantial and accumulating evidence that psoriasis has a systemic inflammatory component. It is known that patients suffering from psoriasis have increased prevalence of traditional cardiovascular risk factors, such as hypertension, dyslipidaemia, obesity, tobacco use and diabetes mellitus. This would logically explain an increased rate of cardiovascular events, but even when adjusting for theses risk factors, psoriasis carry an independent risk for developing cardiovascular disease. Recent large epidemiological studies have shown a strong correlation between psoriasis and myocardial infarction. Atopic dermatitis has been linked to ischemic stroke in one study, but besides this, the disease has not been associated with cardiovascular disease. In conclusion, convincing and increasing evidence is supporting that psoriasis induce accelerated atherosclerosis and hence cardiovascular disease and mortality. In particular, this is seen in young patients with early disease onset. Psoriasis is believed to be driven by cytokines produced by Th1 and Th17 lymphocytes. A number of these cytokines are suggested to be atherogenic. In contrast, another chronic inflammatory disease, atopic dermatitis, is predominantly driven by Th2 lymphocyte derived cytokines, some of which may inhibit atherosclerotic processes. It is therefore, of interest to compare the presence of cardiovascular disease in these two inflammatory skin diseases. Hypothesis: That the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and especially coronary artery disease is increased in psoriasis patients and that this process can be influenced by treatment of psoriasis with biological treatment.

Psoriatic ArthritisPsoriasisThis exploratory study will be used to identify questions that will be part of a new QoL questionnaire for patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis and to determine the sample size needed for its validation. The new questionnaire will be a global QoL questionnaire which will take into account the impact of both psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis on QoL. STUDY OBJECTIVES To evaluate the influence of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis on patient's answers to QoL questions from DLQI, HAQ, EQ-5D, FACIT-fatigue and SF-36. To identify an equal number of questions from DLQI, HAQ, EQ-5D, FACIT-fatigue and SF-36 where answers are mostly influenced either by psoriatic arthritis or by psoriasis.

Genetic Analysis of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis
PsoriasisThis study will examine the genetic basis of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. It is known that genes play an important role in determining who gets psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis. This study will look for specific gene variants (alleles) that run in families with these conditions, or are found more often in people with these conditions than in those without them. Participants for this study were identified through the dermatology services of the University of Michigan Medical Center, the Ann Arbor Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the University of Kiel, and Henry Ford Hospital. Additional families were provided by the National Psoriasis Foundation Tissue Bank. They include people with psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis, or both, in addition to some family members of patients. Only families in which the age of the patient at disease onset was below 40 years are included. Patients were included if they had lesions covering more than 1 percent of their total body surface area or if at least two skin, scalp, nail, or joint lesions were diagnosed as psoriasis. Healthy volunteers are also enrolled as control subjects. Participants undergo the following procedures, as follows: Patients with psoriasis and people without psoriasis who have multiple family members with the disease Skin evaluation Photographs of lesions for documentation Patients with psoriatic arthritis and people without psoriatic arthritis who have multiple family members with the disease Joint evaluation and possibly ultrasound Joint X-rays or review of existing X-rays Patients with psoriasis only, with psoriatic arthritis, and healthy volunteers Blood draw of 30 milliliters.
