Radius FracturesAllomatrix is a combination of Demineralized Bone Matrix with a binding medium of calcium sulfate hemihydrate and carboxymethylcellulose. Allomatrix combines the osteoinductive capacity of DBM with the osteoconduction and controlled resorption of surgical grade calcium sulfate. Unstable fractures of the distal radius do not resist displacement once it has been manipulated into an anatomical position. There is a parallel between the quality of the anatomic result and the residual capacity of the wrist, except in older, low demanding patients. Injectable osteoconductive cements have been introduced to fill voids in metaphyseal bone and may provide a better stability around hardware in osteoporotic bone and help maintain reduction of fracture fragments.Moreover, a product like ALLOMATRIX could accelerate and improve bone healing and fracture stability by its osteoinductive properties. However, the clinical significance of these new bone graft materials still have to be proven in a randomised controlled study set-up.

Distal Radius FractureBackground: Several studies have investigated the degree of final displacement and its association with clinical outcome. There is still no consensus on the importance of radiological outcome and published studies do not use the same criteria for an acceptable alignment. Previous reports have used a linear or a dichotomized exposure in the statistical analysis, but no study has investigated a nonlinear association. Methods: We included 438 patients treated for a distal radius fracture (DRF) with either reduction and cast immobilization or surgery. Radiographic outcomes were determined by radiographs 3 months after the injury. Clinical outcome was determined by QuickDASH (qDASH), ROM and grip strength at 1-year after the injury. Nonlinear correlations were analysed with cubic splines.

There are numerous metaphyseal-epiphyseal branches arise within the pronator quadratus and the anterior interosseous artery and course towards the distal radius. These branches may be fundamental to the healing of the distal radius fractures and make nonunion a rare complication. The aim of this study is the evaluation of the role of the pronator quadratus muscle and its repair in volar approach in distal radius fractures treated with plate fixation.
