Ultrasound Assisted Distal Radius Fracture Reduction

Colles FracturePoint of Care Ultrasound1 more

PURPOSE: to evaluate the utility of bedside ultrasound performed by emergency physicians in the evaluation and reduction of colles fractures as compared with traditional pre and post reduction radiographs. With the objectives of assessing Emergency Ultrasounds (EU) utility in guiding reduction attempts of Colles fractures and to compare EU to x-ray for the final assessment of reduction adequacy.

Local Remodelling of Bone Fracture Healing

Fracture HealingDistal Radius Fracture

The aim of our study is to improve a mathematical model (FAE) of human bone healing using the example of the distal spoke fracture. Computer-aided strength analyzes of data from hr-pqCTs should provide information about the fracture strength and quality of the newly formed bone at defined times. Laboratory parameters from sober blood analyzes, bone remodeling markers, competitive x-rays, the course of pain, range of motion, grip strength and other easily accessible parameters should be evaluated with the above-mentioned analyzes.

Defining Displacement Thresholds for Surgical Intervention for Distal Radius Fractures - a Delphi...

Wrist FractureDistal Radius Fracture

Wrist (distal radius fractures) are very common injuries. Despite this there is still much controversy about the best way to treat them and in particular which ones require intervention. Many studies have been carried out but there is no strong evidence to answer these questions. The investigators are carrying out a Delphi study which involves seeking consensus from experts at treating these injuries about the best way to manage them. UK and international expert surgeons will take part in three rounds of online questionnaires to help decide how much displacement of the fracture will trigger treatment for different common wrist fracture cases. The aim of the study is to obtain expert opinion through consensus from the expert group about the amount of displacement that is acceptable until intervention is required. This will provide guidance and reduce variation between treating surgeons.

Screw Lengths in Radius Volar Plates

Radius; FractureLower or Distal End3 more

Background Fractures of the distal radius are among the most common. Major complications, including irritation and rupture of the extensor tendons, may occur if epiphyseal screws of inappropriate length are used. Questions/Purposes The main objective of the present study was to determine whether the optimal epiphyseal screw length can be determined by reference to the diaphyseal screw length. Methods Forty CT scans were semi-automatically segmented. A 3D model of the volar plate was affixed to each distal radius with simulation. The maximum lengths of the diaphyseal screws, as well as the four distal epiphyseal screws, were measured. Linear regression analysis was performed.

Distal Radius FracturesPoor Bone Quality1 more

The purpose of this study is to evaluate if poor bone quality increases the risk of specific types of treatment complications in patients with distal radius fractures treated with open reduction and Locking Compression Plates(LCP).

Outcome Study of Complex Distal Radius Fractures

Distal Radius Fractures

The purpose of this study is to collect information about how people do after different treatments of a broken wrist to see if one treatment has better results.

Low Dose CT Distal Radius Fractures

Radius Fractures

This study is a prospective, departmental funded study examining the outcomes of Low Dose CT scans compared to Conventional Dose CT scans in patients who present to Duke University with a Distal Radius Fracture.

Corrective Osteotomy of the Distal Radius Without Bone Grafting

Distal Radius Fracture

The investigators retrospectively analyzed patients who underwent extraarticular corrective osteotomy of the distal radius via a palmar approach and without the use of a bone graft, even in the absence of cortical contact after corrective osteotomy. The goal of this retrospective observational study is to determine whether secondary dislocation or nonunion occurs after corrective osteotomy without bone grafting.
