Efficacy and Safety of Niuliva® for the Prevention of Hepatitis B Virus Recurrence in Newly Orthotopic...

Hepatitis BLiver Transplantation

The aim of this clinical trial is to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of Niuliva (Hepatitis B virus immune globulin) in the prophylaxis of hepatitis B virus (HBV) reinfection in patients submitted to liver transplantation due to HBV-induced liver disease by reaching and maintaining certain hepatitis B antibody (HBsAg) levels considered as protective during the first six and twelve months post-transplantation.

FMISO PET Study of Glioblastoma

Recurrent Glioblastoma

In this research study, the investigators are using FMISO-PET and MRI scans to explore the delivery of bevacizumab to the blood vessels in patient's with recurrent glioblastoma before and after treatment. Bevacizumab is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use in patients with recurrent glioblastoma . It works by targeting a specific protein called VEGF, which plays a role in promoting the growth or spreading of tumor blood vessels. Since anti-VEGF agents also affect normal blood vessels in the brain, they can inhibit the way other drugs used in combination with bevacizumab are delivered to the tumor. In PET scans, a radioactive substance is injected into the body. The scanning machine finds the radioactive substance, which tends to go to cancer cells. For the PET scans in this research study, the investigators are using an investigational radioactive substance called FMISO. "Investigational" means that the role of FMISO-PET scans is still being studied and that research doctors are trying to find out more about it. FMISO goes to areas with low oxygenation so parts of the tumor that do not have enough oxygen can be seen. In addition, a vascular MRI will be used to evaluate the changes in tumor blood flow, blood volume, and how receptive blood vessels are. This scan will be performed at the same time of the FMISO-PET scan.

Relapse Prevention With Varenicline

RecurrenceSmoking Cessation1 more

This study aims to determine if varenicline (Chantix®), currently used as a smoking cessation aid, will decrease the likelihood of relapse to smoking following a programmed lapse in the laboratory. The hypothesis is that varenicline will reduce the reinforcing effects of smoking and will delay or prevent relapse compared to placebo.

Efficacy of Bilhvax in Association With Praziquantel for Prevention of Clinical Recurrences of Schistosoma...

Urinary SchistosomiasisSchistosoma Haematobium

Objectives:To reduce the risk of S. haematobium pathology recurrences during the three years following vaccine administration and to control the safety of this therapeutic strategy in children exposed to urinary schistosomiasis. Methodology : Phase III trial, self-contained, randomized, double blind, in two parallel groups receiving 3 injections at D0, W4, W8 and a boost at W52, one group receiving "Bilhvax", the other one placebo, in S. haematobium infected children pretreated by two doses of PZQ (at W9 and W8) Patient included : Infected school children, 6 to 9 years of age. Primary objective : To demonstrate a significant delay of recurrence of the schistosomiasis pathology in vaccine group compared to control group in the 3 years period following the first administration (between D0 and W152). Secondary objective : safety Duration : February 2009 to March 2012

Regional Anesthesia and Breast Cancer Recurrence

Breast Neoplasms

In this multi-center trial, Stage 1-3 patients having mastectomies or isolated lumpectomy with axillary node dissection will be randomly assigned to thoracic epidural or paravertebral anesthesia/analgesia, or to general anesthesia and morphine analgesia. Participants will be followed for up to 10 years to determine the rate of cancer recurrence or metastasis.

Talotrexin in Treating Young Patients With Recurrent Solid Tumors or Leukemia That is Recurrent...

Brain and Central Nervous System TumorsLeukemia3 more

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as talotrexin, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of talotrexin in treating young patients with recurrent solid tumors or leukemia that is recurrent or does not respond to treatment.

A Finnish Breast Cancer Group Study (BREX 01-2004). A multicenter phase III open randomised trial of the efficacy of exercise in the prevention of long-term adverse effects of adjuvant treatments and breast cancer recurrences in women with primary breast cancer. The aim of the study is to investigate whether regular exercise training could reduce the long-term side effects of adjuvant treatments of primary breast cancer and improve quality of life and well being.
