Evaluation of a Third and Fourth Dose of StaphVAX® in Adults With End-Stage Renal Disease

Staphylococcal InfectionsChronic Kidney Failure

This study is a continued evaluation of the immune response to StaphVAX , a Staphylococcus aureus type 5 and 8 capsular polysaccharide conjugate vaccine, in end-stage renal disease patients, by giving a 3rd and 4th dose to a subset of the participants in the previous efficacy trial. Participants continue to receive the vaccine or placebo in a blinded manner, and are also randomly assigned to 1 of 2 different intervals between the doses. The immunogenicity is measured by the antibodies in the blood, and typical vaccine safety information is also collected.

Pediatric Kidney Transplant Without Calcineurin Inhibitors

End-Stage Renal Disease

The purpose of this study is to see the effect of using drugs other than calcineurin inhibitors to improve the rate of kidney transplant failure. Kidney transplantation can help children with end-stage kidney disease. However, it has been difficult to find treatment for donor graft rejection that does not have a lot of side effects. Researchers hope to find treatments (immunosuppressants) with fewer side effects. One approach is to avoid using calcineurin inhibitors and to try a new drug known as sirolimus instead. Another is to use steroids less often. This study will test whether using sirolimus, fewer steroid treatments, MMF, and certain antibodies will improve long-term graft survival in children receiving kidney transplants from living donors.

Shared Decision Making for Kidney Transplant Candidates to Plan for an Organ Offer Decision

End Stage Renal DiseaseEnd-Stage Kidney Disease2 more

The goal of this pilot randomized trial is to learn about shared decision making in kidney transplant candidates. The aim of this proposal is to evaluate the Donor Plan Donor Choice tool to promote high-quality Shared Decision Making for providers and kidney transplant candidates at two transplant centers. Participants will: Review an online education tool, Donor Plan Donor Choice. Discuss a Kidney Offer Plan with a transplant provider. Answer questions about willingness to consider different donor types. Researchers will compare the Shared Decision Making group to usual care to generate pilot data and implementation outcomes for a larger trial.

Registry of GORE® ACUSEAL Vascular Graft in Dialysis Access

Chronic Kidney DiseasesEnd Stage Renal Disease on Dialysis

The goal of this observational study is to evaluate safety and performance of GORE® ACUSEAL Vascular Graft for the treatment of CKD in patients with ESRD in hemodialysis. The main questions it aims to answer are: Safety: Freedom from device-related infection adverse events at 24 months from device implant Performance: Secondary patency at 24 months from device implant. Participants, after informed consent is obtained, will be implanted with GORE® ACUSEAL Vascular Graft and followed for 24 months in standard of care, to evaluate safety and performance of the device.

Trial to Evaluate Reduction in Inflammation in Patients With Advanced Chronic Renal Disease Utilizing...

Chronic Kidney DiseaseInflammation1 more

The purpose of this research study is to compare the safety and effectiveness of 2 different doses of a study drug called ziltivekimab to placebo (an inactive substance) in reducing inflammation and improving some of the bad effects of inflammation on heart disease. Participants will be randomly (by chance) assigned to receive either ziltivekimab or placebo. The chance that participants will be assigned into one of the three study arms of ziltivekimab (either 15 mg or 30 mg) or placebo is the same (approximately 33%). This is a double-blind study, which means neither participants nor the study doctor will know which group the participants are in. In case of an emergency, however, the study doctor can get this information. The study drug will be injected under the skin once every 4 weeks. In this study participants will receive 3 injections of study drug. The total study duration for each participant will be approximately 6 months.

Effects of a Mindfulness-based Intervention in Stress, Pain and Quality of Life in People Undergoing...

Renal InsufficiencyChronic7 more

This project has as main objective to evaluate the effects of a Mindfulness-based intervention (MBI) in the reduction of stressors, pain and quality of life of people with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis (HD). The investigators hypothesize that this program offered during hemodialysis sessions may modify the pain profile, stressors levels and may improve the quality of life by the people in hemodialysis. This is an incipient field of research at the international level and almost nonexistent in Brazil. Evidence indicates the need for MBIs to be performed during HD sessions, adapted to the context, to facilitate patient compliance, contribute to the management of the discomfort generated during HD and promote health.

Plazomicin Study in ESRD Patients Receiving IHD

End Stage Renal Disease

This study is being conducted to directly characterize the pharmacokinetic (PK) profile of plazomicin following administration of a single oral dose before and after IHD in subjects with ESRD. This PK assessment will be used to provide appropriate plazomicin dosing recommendations for patients with ESRD receiving IHD.
