Urinary Concentration and Diluting Ability in Patients With Chronic Renal Disease and/ or Hypertension...

Renal InsufficiencyChronic1 more

The investigators want to test the hypothesis that patients with chronic renal disease have a poorer ability to preserve water after being thirsty and a poorer ability to excrete water after a load of fluid. They presume that these abilities become poorer when renal insufficiency progresses. The investigators further hypothesize that patients with hypertension also have a decreased ability to concentrate and dilute urine.

Measurement of the Energy Metabolism of Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

Renal Failure

The daily energy expenditure of patients treated with peritoneal dialysis could be increased compared to the general population and promote the development of a state of undernutrition. Conversely, the absorption of glucose by transperitoneal route could contribute to the occurrence of a metabolic syndrome. The main objective is to compare DE and its variations according to the conditions (rest, sleep, meals, physical activity) in patients treated with automated DP compared to controls, in a calorimetric chamber.

Elderly Patients With Renal Insufficiency: Reasons for Using the Geriatrician, Modalities and Results...

Secondary Evaluation CriteriaComorbidities and Coexisting Conditions1 more

The incidence and prevalence of kidney failure increases with age. Elderly people with chronic kidney disease may have factors of fragility (loss of independence, comorbidities, geriatric syndromes) that can complicate the choice and implementation of the nephrological therapeutic project. Joint and early assessment of these patients by a nephrologist and a geriatrician could help to optimize the definition of care objectives and patient pathway. There is little data on how nephrologists and geriatricians cooperate and on the description of frailties in elderly patients with renal impairment. In this context, the objective of this study is to describe in a French university hospital the reasons for the use of geriatricians by nephrologists, the modalities of geriatric evaluation and the socio-demographic and medical characteristics (including geriatric syndromes) of very elderly patients with renal insufficiency, and then to become so at one year. Year of implementation of this research: 2019 based on data from 2017 and 2019. Approximate number of people likely to be included in the research: 100 patients

Association Between COVID-19 and UTIs Caused by ESBL Organism in Infants

Renal Insufficiency

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) in infants and young children are one of the most common bacterial infections, usually febrile illness without source, frequently due to Enterobacteriaceae, mainly Escherichia coli. Multidrug-resistant organisms including extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) producing bacteria are becoming more prevalent. Due to the risk factors of ESBL-producing organisms in community-acquired (CA)-UTIs in infants in QATAR and Arab countries are still not studied because of the limited therapeutic options. hence, the importance of this study is to get knowledge about how to decrease the rapidly increasing in ESBL- producing bacteria, in infants, and to use antibiotics in a suitable guideline.so, The aim of this retrospective case-control study is to determine the clinical manifestations, and investigations of urinary tract infections among infants and the association with COVID-19 infection, in pediatric emergency centers at Hamad General Hospital - Qatar. From 1st January 2015 till 1st January 2022.

Renal Insufficiency

The objective of this long term study is to prospectively compare the incidence of NSF in two cohorts (Cohort 1- patients with moderate chronic kidney disease eGFR 30-59 and Cohort 2- patients with severe chronic kidney disease or kidney failure eGFR <30).

Detection of Latent Tuberculosis in Hemodialysis Patients

Chronic Renal Failure

This study aims to compare the performance of the tuberculin skin test, used for more than 50 years as a diagnostic tool for latent tuberculosis infection, with 2 blood tests which have recently become commercially available (Interferon-gamma release assays) in a population of immunosuppressed individuals with chronic renal failure undergoing long term hemodialysis
