This research project consists of a prospective diagnostic study conducted on patients with clinical suspicion of rhabdomyolysis admitted to the emergency rooms of the University Hospitals of Nimes, Montpellier, Paris, Nice and Toulon Inter Army Hospital. The main objective of this study is to determine whether the plasma level of Neutrophil Gelatinase Associated Lipocalin (NGAL) may be retained as a predictor of acute renal failure (ARF) occurring within 48 hours after admission for rhabdomyolysis.

Compliance/Adherence After Kidney Transplant, With or With Out Med-O-Wheel™.

Background: Adherence to the immunosuppressive drug regimen is critical to the outcome after an organ transplant. Patients need to take their prescribed medications and attend their appointments with the doctor. Based on previous studies in other European countries, the cost of non-compliance after organ transplantation in Sweden is >SEK 35 million/year. Patients who lose their graft both lose quality of life and have decreased expected survival; moreover, retransplantation may be hampered by new HLA antibodies. Question: The primary question is whether Med-O-Wheel™ can improve compliance to the prescribed medication regimen in renal transplant patients. Methods and materials: All kidney transplant patients at Karolinska University Hospital, Huddinge, will be given information about the study and will then be asked to participate. Participants will be randomized into two arms, one arm with and one with out Med-O-Wheel™. The 80 included patients will be closely monitored for 1 year regarding intake of prescribed medications. Med-O-Wheel™ is an electronic medication dispenser that records the date and time of each occasion when the patient takes medications from the dispenser. It has a SIM card and text messaging capabilities. Addoz Portal™ is a web-based application that makes it possible to monitor and analyse medication intake. Each event in the medication dispenser is registered in the portal, which communicates with the care provider/support person by text message, e-mail or telephone. Significance of the study: In the future it may be possible to improve compliance in transplant patients. In particular, patients will feel secure since they will receive confirmation through the portal that they are taking their medications safely and accurately.

The Objective is to determine if renal hypothermia during open partial nephrectomy results in improved post-operative renal function compared to warm ischemia. Primary Aim is to determine the effect of hypothermia on preservation of overall renal function compared to no hypothermia in patients who require hilar vessel clamping during open partial nephrectomy for a renal tumor. Hypothesis: Hypothermia will result in improved post-operative preservation of overall renal function. Secondary Aim is to determine the effect of hypothermia on preservation of affected renal function (kidney with the tumor) compared to no hypothermia in patients who require hilar vessel clamping during open partial nephrectomy for a renal tumor. Hypothesis: Hypothermia will result in improved post-operative preservation of affected renal function.

Pulsatile Perfusion Preservation in Kidney Transplantation From Expanded Criteria Donors

Our hypothesis is that the Waters Medical® pulsatile perfusion machine (RM 3) is a way to improve delayed graft function (DGF) in marginal grafts, and some perfusion profiles (flow, pressure, resistance index, venous effluent pH) are correlated with better recovery of renal function (without dialysis during the first week after transplant). Observation or Investigation Method Used : The study is multicenter, prospective, open, controlled and randomized:grafts are divided into two parallel groups: group 1 corresponds to a conservation of grafts in static incubation group 2 corresponds to conservation using a pulsatile perfusion machine Duration and Organizational Arrangements for Research : The total duration of the study is planned for 36 months. This duration includes: an inclusion period that will last 24 months, the follow-up of recipient patients from the day of transplantation until twelve months after the operation

People who undergo coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) or heart valve surgery may experience acute kidney injury (AKI) after their surgery. Current medical tests cannot identify AKI until approximately 48 hours after it occurs. This study will examine three new biomarkers in blood and urine that may provide a more effective and faster way of predicting AKI in people who undergo CABG or heart valve surgery.
