Effectiveness of Dry Needling as a Treatment of Shoulder Myofascial Pain Syndrome in Spinal Cord...

Spinal Cord InjuriesMyofascial Pain Syndrome2 more

Shoulder pain in people with spinal cord injury is one of the most prevalent in acute and chronic patients because of weakness in shoulder periarticular muscles, and also because of overuse of these part of the body in assistive devices. This study aims to evidence if dry needling (a physiotherapy technique) is also useful in patients with spinal cord injury, and how long it could hold out without or less pain.

Quantitative Ultrasound of Trapezius Muscle in Cervical Myofascial Syndrome

Myofascial Pain Syndrome

The myofascial points within the trapezius muscle are hypoechogenic regions that can be depicted via ultrasound imaging. In this study we aimed to demonstrate the hypoechogenic regions within the trapezius muscle and to determine if physical therapy modalities change the appearance and size of these areas. We also wanted to explore if the presence of these areas correlate with pain.

Acunpuncture for Fibromyalgia Syndrome

AcupunctureFibromyalgia

patients suffering from fibromyalgia syndrome according to the criteria of the American College of Rheumatology 2010 will be enrolled. All fibromyalgic patients will be subjected to a further ambulatory visit and if an energy deficiency in the Liver and Spleen Meridians will be identified, according to the Traditional Chinese Medicine rules, acupuncture will be planned. If not, a standard therapy with analgesic drugs will be started. Acupuncture treatment will consist of six weekly sessions. Tricyclic antidepressants, anti-epileptic drugs, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and opioids will be used as standard strategy. Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy, Perfusion and Diffusion Tensor Imaging in Neuropsychiatric Lupus...

Systemic Lupus ErythematosusFibromyalgia1 more

The purpose of this study is to find out if certain types of Magnetic Resonance (MR) scanning will help to better detect markers in the brain that are related to the neuropsychiatric symptoms of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). A small percentage of patients who have this type of lupus experience symptoms that may result from a blood clot or change in blood vessel structure in the brain. These neuropsychiatric symptoms can include an inability to think clearly, a change in level of awake and/or awareness, and in the worst cases, seizure and stroke. Another goal of the study is to find out if individuals with fibromyalgia (FM), or chronic pain, have symptom-related markers in any of these scans as well. Better and earlier detection of markers that are related to acute neuropsychiatric lupus (NPSLE) and FM will be helpful to all who are affected by these diseases.

FibromyalgiaExercise3 more

The study has three aims: To investigate the influence of cardiovascular autonomic function on pain sensitivity at rest in patients with fibromyalgia and age- and sex-matched controls To investigate the influence of cardiovascular autonomic function at baseline and during exercise on the pain response following submaximal isometric exercise To study the relation between the pain response following physical and cognitive tasks (exercise and mental math, respectively).
