Full Thickness Rotator Cuff Tear

Study Purpose: To evaluate the safety and performance of Augment Rotator Cuff as a primary surgical treatment for full thickness rotator cuff tears. The hypothesis is that Augment Rotator Cuff will be easy to deliver as an inter-positional graft placed between the rotator cuff tendon and the humeral head providing further enhanced tendon to bone healing without adding any additional safety risk to the patient. Study Rationale: To evaluate the safety and performance Augment™ Rotator Cuff in surgical intervention of a torn rotator cuff and to obtain preliminary data to support the rationale for a subsequent pivotal clinical trial.

Axillary Nerve Block Combined With Suprascapular Nerve Block

Rotator Cuff Tear

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare the result of combined sono-guided suprascapular nerve block (SSNB) and axillary nerve block (ANB) with isolated SSNB in postoperative pain following arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. Our hypothesis was that SSNB combined ANB would show a more effective anesthesia for arthroscopic rotator cuff repair as compared with SSNB only. Methods: Forty-two patients with rotator cuff tear who had undergone arthroscopic rotator cuff repair were enrolled in this study. Among them, 21 patients were randomly allocated into group I, and received SSNB and ANB with each 10mL ropivacaine. The other 21 patients were allocated into group II, and received SSNB with 10mL ropivacaine and ANB with 10mL normal saline. Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) pain score, patient's satisfaction (SAT), and Lateral Pain Index (LPI), etc was checked at postoperative 1, 3, 6, 12, 18, 24, 36, and 48 hours.

This pilot trail aims to assess the effectiveness of ECA cream in the treatment of calcifying shoulder tendinitis in terms of: Reduction or removal of shoulder calcifications Functional improvements Pain improvements 10 subjects will be assessed prior and 1 and 2 months post intervention onset. The intervention will consist in the application of the ECA cream in the affected shoulder twice a day during 1 month.

Rotator Cuff Tear

Kinesiotape (KT) is widely used in musculoskeletal rehabilitation as an adjuvant to treatment but minimal evidence supports its use. The aim of this study is to determine the immediate and short-term effects of shoulder KT on muscular activity, mobility, strength and pain after rotator cuff surgery. Our hypotheses were that KT should not improve muscle function, mobility, strength or pain in a clinically meaningful way. Methods: Thirty-nine subjects with shoulder rotator cuff surgery were tested 6 and 12 weeks post-surgery, without tape, with KT and with a sham tape (ST). KT and ST were applied in a randomized order. For each condition, muscular activity of upper trapezius, three parts of deltoid and infraspinatus during shoulder flexion, range of motion (ROM) and pain intensity were assessed. At 12 weeks, isometric strength at 90° of shoulder flexion, with related muscular activity and pain intensity were also measured. Subjects maintained the last tape applied for three days and recorded pain intensity at wake-up and during the day.

Hemiplegic Shoulder Pain and Rotator Cuff Injuries

Hemiplegic shoulder pain (HSP) is one of most complications after stroke. HSP would impede rehabilitation programs and the motor recovery of affected upper extremity. HSP was associated with impaired daily life activities and prolong hospital stay after stroke. Therefore, effective managements is important in stroke patients with HSP. Rotator cuffs injuries are related to HSP. Clinically, hyaluronic acid (HA) is used for rotator cuff injuries. Previous researchers reported that HA could provide pain relief, improved motion, and increased daily activities. In this study, fifty subacute stoke patients will be enrolled. These patients will be allocated into group A and B randomly. The patients in group A received HA injection while patients in group B received normal saline injection. Patients from both groups received injection for 3 times each on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd week. All the patients will still receive rehabilitation programs of physical therapy and occupational therapy. Each patient will receive physical, sonographic examinations, and stroke Specific Quality of Life Scale (SSQOL). The aims of this study are to investigate the benefits of HA injection on pain relief, motor function recovery, and life quality in subacute stroke patients with HSP before and after HA injection.
