The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of scapular proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) techniques applied in addition to exercise therapy in patients with Subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS) on pain, pressure pain threshold (PPT), range of motion (ROM), functionality, scapular dyskinesis, active trigger points and emotional state.

Subacromial Corticosteroid Injections and tDCS in Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy

This study evaluates the effects of corticosteroid injections over time, as well as the additional effect provided by subsequent transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) of the motor cortex on patients with rotator cuff tendinopathy of the shoulder. All patients will receive a subacromial corticosteroid injection. Two weeks later, a third will receive a treatment of tDCS, a third will receive a placebo a-tDCS treatment, and the last third will not receive any additional treatment.

Shoulder Impingement Syndrome

Background: Rounded shoulder posture (RSP), associated with altered scapular kinematics and imbalance of muscle activation, is one of potential risks for shoulder impingement syndrome (SIS) due to alignment deviation of scapula. Evidence showed shoulder brace improved degree of RSP by postural correction. However, it is unknown whether shoulder brace with different characteristics (tension and direction) is optimal for muscle activation and scapular kinematics in patients with SIS and RSP. Objective: There are 4 objectives for the present study: (1) to investigate the relationships among degree of RSP, scapular kinematics and muscle activation in SIS patients with RSP; (2) to compare the effect of shoulder brace on degree of RSP, muscle balance ratios (Upper trapezius/Lower trapezius, Upper trapezius/ Serratus anterior) and scapular kinematics (upward/downward rotation, anterior/posterior tilt, external/internal rotation) during arm movements; (3) to compare the effect of two tensions of brace strap (self-comfortable and forced tension) in symptomatic impingement patients with RSP; (4) to compare the effect of two types of direction of strap (paraspinal muscle and diagonal orientation) in symptomatic impingement patients with RSP. Design: Patients with SIS and RSP will be recruited in this study. Participants will be randomly assigned into 2 groups (self-comfortable following forced tension and forced following self-comfortable tension groups) with 2 directions of strap in each tension wearing shoulder brace. Each patient has the assessment 2 times with 1-week interval. Pectoralis minor, acromial distance, scapular index and shoulder angle will be used to assess degree of RSP. Three-dimensional electromagnetic motion analysis and electromyography muscle activity will be used to record the scapular kinematic, absolute muscle activation and muscular balance ratios during arm movements with or without shoulder brace. Main outcome measures: Scapula kinematic (upward/downward rotation, anterior/posterior tilt, external/internal rotation), absolute muscle activation (Upper trapezius, Middle Trapezius, Lower trapezius, Serratus anterior) and muscle balance ratios (Upper trapezius/Lower trapezius, Upper trapezius/Serratus anterior) are main outcomes of the study.

A Phase I/III Clinical Study of TPX-114 for the Treatment of Full-Thickness Rotator Cuff Tear

Rotator Cuff Injuries

Rotator cuff tear is one of the most common shoulder diseases and retears occur frequently after arthroscopic repair. Therefore, there is a growing need of new therapy to improve structural outcome. This study evaluates the efficacy and safety of autologous fibroblasts during arthroscopic repair. The primary outcome is the retear rate at 24 weeks after administration of autologous fibroblasts (TPX-114) during arthroscopic repair. Secondary outcomes are functional evaluations including Range of Motion (ROM), Constant Score (CS), American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score and Simple Shoulder Test (SST) at 24 and 52 weeks after administration.

Effect of Kinesotaping on Management of Supraspinatus Tendinitis

Supraspinatus Tendinitis

Supraspinatus tendonitis is a common clinical problem that causes functional and labor disabilities. It is the most frequent cause of shoulder pain. Manual therapy is a common intervention used by physical therapist for management of supraspinatus tendonitis. Joint mobilization, stretching and strengthening exercises are commonly used techniques for management of this condition. In this study KT will be added to conventional manual therapy and its efficacy will be investigated. The study design will be Randomized Clinical Trial (RCT) that will be used to compare the effects of KT added to manual therapy for management of supraspinatus tendonitis. 38 patients will be participate in this study who will be assigned randomly (biased coin method) to experimental and control groups (19+19). The data collection will be carried out at Railway Hospital Rawalpindi. Patients with shoulder pain at rest and positive for special tests (Neer's, Empty Can, Drop Arm, Hawkin's Kennedy) will be included in this study. There is no restriction on gender and age group will be between 25 and 60 years. Patients with cervical post op, referred pain, open wounds, allergic to KT and with signs of radiculopathy will be excluded from this study. Pre and post treatment evaluation will be done using Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) and goniometry. Data will be collected on 1st day, 4th day and 7th day for both groups. After data collection is completed, SPSS will be used to analyze the collected data

Effectiveness of ECA Cream on Calcifying Shoulder Tendinitis

Calcifying Shoulder Tendinitis

This pilot trail aims to assess the effectiveness of ECA cream in the treatment of calcifying shoulder tendinitis in terms of: Reduction or removal of shoulder calcifications Functional improvements Pain improvements 10 subjects will be assessed prior and 1 and 2 months post intervention onset. The intervention will consist in the application of the ECA cream in the affected shoulder twice a day during 1 month.
