The Accuracy of Amniotic Fluid Ferning in the Second Trimester in the Diagnosis of Preterm Prelabor...

Preterm Premature Rupture of MembraneAmniotic Fluid Leakage

Although much investigation has been done on the use of ferning in the second and third trimesters, particularly with the development of rapid protein clinical assays, there appears to be lower ferning rates in clinical practice with traditional techniques compared to previous published research on the subject. Much of the older study designs are lacking in detail and lack a large enough sample sizes at each gestational age to appropriately interpret the significance of ferning results by gestational age. Additionally, a large premise for the current tests used to diagnose rupture of membranes is based on these older studies. Given this, we propose collecting amniotic fluid vaginally to evaluate for the presence of ferning in the second trimester to determine if there is a difference in ferning based on gestational age as well as the time interval after rupture of membranes in which ferning can observed on microscope examination.

ALL Ultrasound Predicts the Success of ACL Repair?

Anterior Cruciate Ligament RuptureSurgery

This case series evaluates whether patients with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) repair have better outcome if the anterolateral ligament (ALL) was repaired or not considering the ultrasound (US) pre-surgical recommendation.

Non-invasive Aortic Aneurysm Tissue Characterization Using Wall Viscoelasticity

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Without Rupture

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is an abnormal dilatation of the aorta in the abdomen due to a wall weakening caused by atherosclerosis. While indications for a rupture intervention are based on AAA maximal diameter (MaxD) (5 cm), 23% of ruptured AAAs are less than 5 cm and in large AAAs, rupture rate could be lower than expected. We propose to expand and validate our vascular ultrasound elastography software to 3D. Strain maps generated from radiofrequency (RF) data acquired from 30 AAA patients with a matrix-array 3D probe will be registered to conventional CT (phase 1) and validated to a biomechanical for characterization of AAA wall, assessing vulnerability and influence of surrounding tissues (phase 2). At the end of the project, we will have analyzed 3D strain maps to improve patient selection before surgery.

Functional Outcome After EPL-rupture After Distal Radius Fracture

Distal Radius Fracture

Rupture of the extensor pollicis longus, (EPL) is a common complication after distal radius fractures. A rupture prevents the thumb extension, which in turn has a negative impact on hand function. An EPL-rupture can either be surgically treated by primary suture, which means that the ends of the tendon are sutured. This is however not recommended if the tendon is weakened. In such cases the rupture can be treated by a transfer of, most often, extensor indicis proprius (EIP) to the thumb. Distal radius fractures are common and a rupture of the EPL-tendon is a known complication thar interferes with hand function and therefore more studies on this patient group are warranted. The aim of this prospective study is to compare regaining of thumb function after surgery, with the non-injured side, after primary suture and EIP-transfer after EPL-rupture as a complication following distal radius fracture.

PPROM Registry (Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes)

Fetal MembranesPremature Rupture3 more

Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes (PPROM) before 37 weeks of pregnancy is responsible for 40% of preterm births in the United States. The PPROM Registry aims to identify possible causes of PPROM, evaluate trends in expectant management, measure maternal and fetal care, and to review short term and long term outcomes of affected pregnancies and births.
