The Rehabilitation Effect of Exercise Training in Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction Patients.

ACL InjuryACL - Anterior Cruciate Ligament Rupture1 more

After anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, the involved quadriceps may demonstrate weakness due to decrease in quadriceps activation. However, elapsed time from the injury may affect muscle strength by restoration of the quadriceps activation. The injury is characterized by joint instability that leads to decreased activity, unsatisfactory knee function, and poor knee-related quality of life in the short term, and it is associated with an increased risk of osteoarthritis on the knee. This study was designed to compare muscle strength, questionnaire and knee function in patients with different exercise training.

Does Nipple Stimulation Shorten Time to Vaginal Birth in Women With Term PROM?

Premature Rupture of Fetal Membranes

Premature Rupture of Membranes (PROM) is defined as the rupture of membranes before the onset of regular uterine contractions. PROM occurs in approximately 10% of all pregnancies (ranging from 2.7% to 17%), with 60% to 80% of cases occurring at term. Approximately 90% of patients' experience PROM enter spontaneous labor within 24 hours, but disagreement exists among health care providers on the optimal management of women with PROM, particularly the need for and timing of inductions. Nipple stimulation is a non-medical natural method for induction of labor. Previous studies demonstrated its effectiveness for initiating labor within 72 hours in women with favorable cervices. The actual mechanism by which such a technique results in cervical ripening is not well understood. In this study, we aim to assess the effectiveness of nipple stimulation in gravid women with term PROM choosing expectant management.

Foot Pressure Mapping and Tendon Length After Nonoperative Treatment of Acute Achilles Tendon Rupture...

Achilles Tendon Rupture

Using a population of patients from another study, who was originally randomized to 2 different types of nonoperative treatment after an acute achilles tendon rupture, the length of the achilles tendon is examined using ultrasound, and foot pressure mapping is performed, 4-5 years after the injury.

Outcomes of Uterine Rupture

Maternal Mortality

Uterine rupture (UR) is a serious, life-threatening obstetric complication. UR is associated with an increased risk of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality, particularly in developing countries compared to developed countries. UR occurs mainly as a consequence of poorly managed labour

Analytical and Functional Evaluation of Recovery Following Acute Rupture of the Achilles Tendon...

Acute Unilateral Rupture of the Achilles Tendon

Acute rupture of the Achilles tendon is a very frequent sports injury. Surgical repair is the usual treatment in young subjects, and although the optimal technique is still a matter of debate, conventional surgery with a direct approach is still the reference technique in young sportsmen and women. Studies investigating the evolution of ankle muscle strength following surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon are rare, even though it is a crucial criterion to determine the possibility of returning to the sport. This project thus proposes to study, in comparison with the healthy ankle:(1) the evolution of muscle strength in the flexors/extensors and invertors/evertors of the injured ankle, evaluated using an isokinetic dynamometer, and (2) the evolution of stabilometry parameters, at 6 months, then at 12 months, following surgery for acute unilateral rupture of the Achilles tendon, operated on using the conventional technique in young sportsmen and women and in comparison with the healthy side.

Detection of Bacterial DNA and Collagen Metabolism in Acutely Ruptured Achilles Tendons

Achilles Tendon Rupture

The etiology and pathogenesis of acute Achilles tendon ruptures are complex and not fully understood. It is well known that they are associated with pre-existing pathological alterations, similar to the changes observed in tendinopathy. The present study investigates if bacteria and collagen metabolism play a role in the etiology of acute Achilles tendon rupture. During surgery, 20 patients will have taken two biopsies from the ruptured part of the tendon and two biopsies from the healthy tissue of the same tendon 2-4 cm proximal to the rupture, as a control.
