Multicenter CTS Pre-and Post-Transplantation Covid-19 Serum Studies
Covid19Kidney Transplant; Complications3 moreThe Covid-19 Serum Study is a prospective case-control study in kidney or liver transplanted patients being hospitalized due to an infection with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus Type 2 (SARS-CoV-2) after transplantation (TX) (POST-TX Covid-19 Serum Study) or patients receiving kidney or liver transplantation after having had a SARS-CoV-2 infection (PRE-TX Covid-19 Serum Study) The aim of this study is to evaluate the development of de novo donor specific antibodies (dnDSA) in transplanted patients being hospitalized due to an infection with SARS-CoV-2 (POST-TX Covid-19 Serum Study) as well as in patients receiving kidney or liver transplantation after having had an infection with SARS-CoV-2 prior to transplantation (PRE-TX Covid-19 Serum Study). Further, the investigators will evaluate possible consequences of having had a SARS-CoV-2 infection prior or after liver or kidney transplantation with regard to graft survival and incidence of graft rejection episodes as well as SARS-CoV-2 specific antibody development after SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Potential Acceptance of COVID-19 Vaccines in Healthcare Workers in Egypt
Covid19The COVID-19 pandemic is expected to remain as a public health threat and economic burden all over the world. The available proposed vaccines are still lacking large randomized controlled trials testing its efficacy and safety. Thus, the acceptance of vaccination between citizens as well as healthcare workers is not guaranteed. As the vaccine is starting to be distributed the acceptance of healthcare givers should be measured as they are usually the front line facing the problem and they have a responsibility to explain the need of immunization to the rest of population. Strategies to enhance the acceptance and trust of the available vaccines may be needed.
Implementation of Rehabilitation Program for Post COVID-19
Post COVID-19 SyndromeRehabilitationMany people who have suffered from the effects of this disease might now be at risk of long-term impairment and disability. The extent of this impairment and disability is yet unknown, but it is clear from early research that these patients will be in need of rehabilitation in all phases of the disease - acute, post-acute and long-term. Rehabilitation is defined as "a set of interventions designed to reduce disability and optimize functioning in individuals with health conditions in interaction with their environment." Rehabilitation might very well be a key strategy to reduce the impact of COVID-19 on the health and function of people. A team work is needed to implement this programs which are essential in all phases to facilitate early discharge, but even more to support and empower patients.
Blood Sample Measurements and Physical Activity Levels in Type II Diabetes and/or COVID-19
Covid19Diabetes Mellitus1 moreIt is known that COVID-19 has a more negative clinical course and causes higher degrees of morbidity and mortality in case of COVID-19 in diabetic patients. However, the contribution of COVID-19 to hyperglycemia and its effect on glycemic parameters are uncertain. However, it is important to investigate homocysteine and lipid profile levels, respectively, and free radical levels known to be effective in the development of cardiovascular disease and diabetes due to oxidative stress, which can provide information about the identification and diagnosis of cardiovascular complications in the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, as the decrease in physical activity levels of individuals in the COVID-19 pandemic may cause possible secondary complications such as an increase in the risk of cardiovascular disease, determining the physical activity levels of individuals and encouraging them to physical activity is another important parameter to minimize the negative effects of the process. Patients who applied to Izmir Bakircay University Cigli Training and Research Hospital (Cigli Regional Education Hospital) and hospitalized in the COVID-19 service and healthy controls are planning to include in this study. Patients diagnosed with COVID-19 will be included in Group I (n: 20), patients diagnosed with both Type II Diabetes Mellitus and COVID-19 will be included in Group II (n: 20) and healthy controls will be included in Group III (n:20). Hemoglobin A1c levels, lipid profiles, homocysteine, free radical levels and physical activity levels will be compared between groups. In addition, the change in the relevant variables before and after COVID-19 treatment will be determined by in-group comparisons in Group I and Group II. This study, which has a prospective and randomized controlled research plan, is planned to be carried out between January and February 2021. Research data will be obtained from blood samples taken from participants. In addition, data on physical activity levels will be collected through a questionnaire. After analyzing the data obtained from the research with appropriate statistical methods, the data will be evaluated.
Effect of Covid-19 Affliction on Psychological and Mental Health Among College Going Students: Cross-Sectional...
Covid19The study aims to study the effects of Novel corona virus (COVID-19) on the psychological and mental health of college going students. Online version of the Event Impact Scale - Revised will be used to filled by the students who got afflicted by the novel corona virus (COVID-19).
Antibodies Response to mRNA Vaccine Against Covid-19
Covid-19Vaccine rollout has started in many countries. In Italy, the Covid-19 vaccine used at the moment is the mRNA-based BNT162b2 and is given to Hospital employers. The investigators undertake this study to monitor IgG evolution after vaccination in the participant hospital settings, which includes 500 subjects.
Concordance Between Buccal Cavity Swab and Nasopharyngeal Swab for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Detection...
Covid19Nasopharyngeal Swabs (NPS) used to test for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection can cause mild to severe discomfort in addition to increasing the risk of transmission. The present study evaluates Test At Home's proprietary self-collection method based on a chewable buccal cavity swab ("lollipop") that stimulates oral fluid collection. The novel method is compared against a contemporary nasal swab collected by a qualified healthcare worker.
Surgery and Lung Ultrasound in COVID-19 Infection
UltrasonographyLung Diseases3 moreThe first case of COVID-19 was identified on December 19 and the world is actually experiencing a pandemic. The surgical procedure in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection involves the exposure of other patients and the group of health workers who face the care of the patient. Thus, screening with lung ultrasound is an alternative to identify patients with an established or suspected infection that requires urgent surgery. Therefore, the aim of this study is to determinate the operational characteristics of lung ultrasound during the screening process for SARS-CoV-2 infection in patients with an indication for urgent surgery.
Manganese-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging of MyOcardial injuRY in COVID 19 (COVID-19)
Covid19Our understanding of the clinical manifestations of COVID-19 is growing on a daily basis and there is evidence that increased age, cardiovascular risk factors and cardiac comorbidity are strongly associated with poor outcomes. Furthermore, myocardial injury occurs and is associated with a much worse outcome and rapid increase in mortality. There have been several reports of myocarditis and heart failure following infection. The mechanisms of myocardial injury and its consequences are not well understood. In an ongoing peer-reviewed and funded study, the investigators are evaluating the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to characterise and to understand the mechanisms of heart failure and myocarditis. Following strong encouragement by the British Heart Foundation, the investigators now propose to extend this investigation to patients who have recovered from COVID-19 infection to understand the mechanisms of myocardial injury that they have experienced. Using gadolinium and manganese-enhanced MRI combined with Computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA), the investigators will assess the mechanisms and direct impact of myocardial injury in patients who have recovered from COVID-19 infection. This will help the investigators understand how best to manage individuals who demonstrate evidence of myocardial injury and potentially provide insights that could lead to novel treatment interventions to reduce such injury and improve patient outcomes.
NeuroCovid - a Study of Intensive Care-requiring Covid-19 Patients
Covid19Critically ill patients requiring intensive care suffer to a large extent from cognitive deficits involving higher brain functions that primarily affect memory, learning and the ability to concentrate. While the background to this effect is not fully understood, there are growing evidence to support mechanisms related to neuro inflammation and changes in blood flow with concomitant ischemic brain damage. Patients with covid-19 often suffer from severe inflammatory activity with an increased risk of coagulation abnormalities and brain damage. Covid-19 patients requiring intensive care develope more severe impairment of neurological and cognitive function than critically ill intensive care patients who have not covid-19. This project therefore aims to map the link between inflammation, immunology and coagulation systems as well as biochemical and structural changes in the brain with cognitive effects in patients in intensive care for covid-19.
