Sustained Attention Abilities in Schizophrenia

Schizophrenic Psychoses

Schizophrenia is a psychiatric pathology, which concerns around 1% of adult population. It is characterized by clinical symptoms combining positive and negative symptoms and thinking disorganization. Schizophrenia is also characterized by cognitive deficits, likely to play an important part in adaptation of these patients in their every-day life, and to affect their clinical symptomatology. Among them, there are deficits in sustained attention which are associated with a difficulty for these patients to maintain efficiently their cognitive activity on a source of stimulation or task. This basic attentional process is fundamental for the efficiency of the overall of cognitive processes, and so for all behaviors directed on an aim. The question of whether or not patients with schizophrenia have difficulty sustaining attention is of high relevance, in the sense that it could undermine performance on nearly any task and so provide a compelling causal explanation of many other impairments observed in these patients. Yet it has not been conclusively answered in over four decades of research. Consequently, the main objective of the protocol is to evaluate sustained attention abilities in schizophrenic patients and to better understand the specific functioning of cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying these abilities (attentional resources and cognitive control mechanisms).

Impact of Caregiver Beliefs on Adherence to Antipsychotic Medications in Patients With Schizophrenia...

DSM-5 Schizophrenia

Only one third of patients with schizophrenia are observant to their treatment knowing that the lack of adherence to treatment is one of the most important predictors of relapse. Recent work shows that the erroneous or negative beliefs of patients with schizophrenia regarding antipsychotic treatment are associated with poor compliance. The hypothesis is that negative beliefs about the antipsychotic treatment of caregivers of patients with schizophrenia may be associated with a higher risk of poor compliance compared to caregivers with positive beliefs about treatment. The primary purpose is to explore the correlation between caregiver beliefs about treatment and patient compliance, taking into account the level of caregiver-patient link.

Mirror-image Study of Paliperidone Palmitate and Risperidone Long-acting Injection

Schizophrenia Spectrum and Other Psychotic Disorders

The primary objective of this single-center multi-site retrospective chart review is to determine if paliperidone palmitate and/or risperidone long-acting injection can decrease the number of psychiatric relapses following their initiation in an inpatient acute psychiatric unit compared to oral antipsychotic therapy and determine if one treatment is superior to the other in this regard. This study will utilize a mirror-image design and incorporate up to a 3 years of follow-up following the index admission. Secondary objectives of this study will be to determine the change in hospital resource utilization for psychiatric reasons following treatment initiation, and to determine the difference in time to relapse.

The Gut Metagenome Research of Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia

Research already found that patients with autistic spectrum disorders lack of Prevotella intestinal type, then schizophrenia patients may also show the specific intestinal type, so investigators want to detect the gut metagenome of schizophrenia patients by high-throughput DNA sequencing to find specific intestinal type, so as to achieve the purpose of schizophrenia diagnosis. According to the detection of inflammatory factors in the blood, nerve growth factor in the cerebrospinal fluid, to find the mechanism of the gut-microbes-brain axis. Furthermore, investigators want to identify intestinal strains involved in weight gain and metabolic disorders such as blood glucose and lipids induced by antipsychotic drugs.
