Study of Skin Tumors in Tuberous Sclerosis

Tuberous Sclerosis

Tuberous sclerosis is a rare, hereditary disease in which patients develop multiple tumors. Although not cancerous, the tumors can affect various organs, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, skin, and central nervous system, with serious medical consequences. The severity of disease varies greatly among patients, from barely detectable to fatal. This study will investigate what causes skin tumors to develop in patients with this disease. Patients with tuberous sclerosis 18 years and older may enroll in this study. Participants will undergo a medical history and thorough skin examination by a dermatologist. Those with skin tumors will be asked to undergo biopsy (tissue removal) of up to eight lesions, under a local anesthetic, for research purposes. The biopsies will all be done the same day. The tissue samples will be used for: examination of genetic changes, measurement of certain proteins and other substances, and growing in culture to study the genetics of tuberous sclerosis. ...

Clinical and Instrumental Treatment's Predictors in Subjects With Neurological Diseases Using G-EO...

Multiple SclerosisStroke2 more

The aim of this work is to elaborate a statistical model to predict the effectiveness of robotic treatment in subjects with neurological diseases. The model will be used to understand which subjects are most responsive to this type of treatment

Quantification and Characterization of Circulating Epithelial and Endothelial Cells in Gougerot-Sjögren...

Primary Gougerot-Sjögren SyndromeSystemic Sclerosis1 more

Primary Gougerot-Sjögren's syndrome is a systemic autoimmune disease belonging to the group of connectivities, whose physiopathology remains largely unknown. Quantification and characterization of epithelial and endothelial circulants in Gougerot-Sjögren's syndrome could reflect the intensity of the epithelial aggression, and thus possibly constitute a biomarker.

ALS Spinal Cord Gray and White Matter Study

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

This study aims to measure in vivo the spinal cord gray and white matter in patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and healthy persons that match the patients' age and sex using rAMIRA imaging, a novel Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) method. Patients and healthy control persons prospectively undergo MRI examinations, clinical examinations including assessments of disability, and tests of muscle force using hand held dynamometry. Serum markers of neuro-axonal injury are also assessed. Examinations for patients and healthy control persons are scheduled every six months over a time span of two years.

Effects of a Combined Supplementation of Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) and Probiotics (Vivomixx®)...

Multiple SclerosisRelapsing-Remitting

The goal of this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled multicenter study is to investigate whether the combination of food supplementation with Tonalin® and specific probiotics is a safe and effective add-on to first-line disease modifying treatment (DMT, interferon-beta derivatives as well as glatirameracetate and other glatirameroids) in relapsing remitting MS (RRMS). 100 patients will be randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to receive either both food supplements for 48 weeks or to receive placebo in addition to their established first-line disease modifying treatment (DMT). The two randomized groups will be compared concerning the change in volume of T2-weighted hyperintense lesions from baseline to 48 weeks.

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus Type 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-Related Multiple Sclerosis (MS)...

Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

The primary objective of this study is to document immunization status of MS participants after SARS-CoV-2-vaccinations and to evaluate possible effects of disease modifying therapy (DMTs) on the immune status. The secondary objectives of the study are to document longevity of immunization status of MS participants after SARS-Cov-2-vaccinations and to evaluate possible effects of DMTs on the immune status, to assess anti SARS-CoV-2 antibody titers regarding amount and persistence, to document immunization status of MS participants after repeated SARS-Cov-2-vaccinations and to evaluate possible effects of DMTs on the immune status, to document vaccine types used in MS population in Germany and to describe tolerability of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines according to participant's assessment.
