The Adult Degenerative Scoliosis Exercise Trial (Pilot Study)
Degenerative ScoliosisAdult degenerative scoliosis is the most common spine deformity in adults. Patients present a lateral curvature of the spine and vertebra rotation. Curves meeting indications for treatment affect 24% of the aging adult population. Adult scoliosis causes pain, curve progression, and cosmetic deformity affecting quality of life and function. Pain affects 90% of patients with AS. Other than surgery for severe cases and pain medication, very little non-operative treatments have been investigated. Scoliosis-specific exercises have shown promise in a single study in adults and in an Alberta adolescent study. The goal of this pilot randomized controlled trial on the effect of Schroth exercises in adults with degenerative scoliosis compared to observation is to determine the feasibility of conducting a larger study. This study will help plan and secure funding for a larger study by examining the ability to recruit enough eligible participants, whether patients can follow the prescribed program session attendance and complete the home exercises prescribed. The early estimate the effects of the exercises on pain, quality of life, disability, deformity and posture measurements will help determine the potential of this approach and the likely success of a larger RCT. This study addresses a need of adults with degenerative scoliosis who do not meet surgical indications but still experience pain and disability by exploring a promising exercise approach.
The Efficiency of Different Exercise Methods in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis
Adolescent Idiopathic ScoliosisThe vertebral column is a structure that transfers the weight of the head and torso to the lower extremity, provides trunk movements and protects the spinal cord.A three dimensional deformity involving lateral flexion of the vertebrae in the frontal plane at 10 ° and above, including axial rotation and physiologic flexion (hypokyphosis) components in the sagittal plane, is defined as scoliosis. Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a type of idiopathic scoliosis that occurs in the period from the onset of puberty (up to 10 years) until the closure of growth plates. Scoliosis is caused by postural, balance and neuromotor disorders as a primary cause of impaired sensory integrity, proprioceptive feedback deficits, secondary lung problems, organ disorders and pain. In addition, the quality of life in these individuals is also seen to decrease. There are no studies in the literature examining the effects of Schroth exercise training on trunk muscle strength, respiratory muscle strength, trunk muscle stiffness, balance and quality of life in children with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. The aim of our study is to examine whether Schroth exercise training has an effect on trunk muscle strength, trunk muscle stiffness, respiratory muscle strength, balance, quality of life and perception of cosmetic deformity in children with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. It is thought that this study will fill the gap in the literature with the original information it will bring to the literature and will shed light on future studies.
The Effect of Spinal Orthosis on the Development of Scoliosis and Chest Deformity in Type I Spinal...
Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type IScoliosis4 moreSpinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a serious neuromuscular disease characterized by the degeneration of alpha motor neurons in the spinal cord, resulting in progressive proximal muscle atrophy and denervation. The main problems are posture disorders, scoliosis, pelvic curvature, contracture, hip dislocation, foot and chest deformities. In this study, examining the effectiveness of trunk support used to alleviate the progression of scoliosis in children diagnosed with SMA Type I will contribute to the current literature. In addition to Individualized Trunk Exercises (ITE), Individualized Pulmonary Rehabilitation (IPR) and Chest Care (CC) Programme, the use of thoracolumbosacral spinal orthosis in Type I children will be used for the first time in our country and in the world literature. SMA. Our aim in the project is to examine the effectiveness of this treatment program on the motor functions, scoliosis Cobb angle, pelvic curvature and chest deformity of children with Type I SMA.The project is planned to be carried out with children diagnosed with Type I SMA who are followed up at Medipol Mega University Hospital Pediatric Chest Diseases Polyclinic. In evaluating the development of scoliosis as the primary outcome measure; Radiological evaluation (Cobb Angle) and examination of chest deformity; Lung X-ray (Basal Chest Wall Upper-Lower Ratio Measurement) will be used. As secondary outcome measures, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Infant Test for Neuromuscular Disorders and the Hammersmith Functional Motor Scale Expanded were used to assess motor functions and examine the level of motor development; In the World Health Organization Motor Development Scale body posture assessment; Supine Trunk Rotation Angle Test and Pelvic Curvature Test, pulse oximetry to assess oxygenation; In determining the level of satisfaction with orthosis use; Children/families' information will be questioned through the Quebec Assistive Technology User Satisfaction Evaluation Survey and Personal Information Form. The active control group will receive the ITE, IPR and CC program as a home program and once a week in the outpatient clinic for 8 weeks, 7 days a week, once a day, each session being 50-60 minutes. In the ITE-IPR-CC + spine orthosis group, in addition to the control group program, a thoracolumbosacral spine orthosis specially designed for the child will be used every day of the week and 8 hours a day for 8 weeks. Evaluations will be made at baseline and at week 8.
The Effect of Schroth Exercises on Pelvic Floor Muscles
ScoliosisThe aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of Schroth exercise training and Traditional Scoliosis exercise training applied 3 days a week for 6 weeks in people with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis on the pelvic floor muscles and to compare these results with the control group, to evaluate pelvic asymmetry, pain, posture, body awareness, flexibility and life expectancy. It will be planned as a prospective randomized controlled trial to evaluate the correlation between 3 groups on the quality of life.

Non Fusion Surgery in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Patients
Adolescent Idiopathic ScoliosisThe primary objective of the study is to monitor the effectiveness of a minimal invasive non-fusion double rod bipolar posterior spinal implant (Nemost growing domino) to correct the scoliotic curve in growing patients suffering from progressive adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) who have failed conservative treatment.
Validation of a New Optimized Nighttime Providence Brace for Personalized Treatment of Adolescent...
ScoliosisIdiopathic ScoliosisAdolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis affects 3-4% of the Canadian population, of which about 10% will need a brace treatment during pubertal growth spurt. Our team has developed an innovative conception method for brace design by optimizing for the immediate in-brace correction. The model is customized to each patient. In this project, the investigators will evaluate the effectiveness of this platform's customized treatment and validate its clinical application.
Effectiveness of Three Dimensional Correction During in Bracing in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis...
Adolescent Idiopathic ScoliosisThe purpose of this study is to study the effectiveness of in-brace 3D scoliosis correction by comparing Rigo Chêneau orthoses (RCO) with conventional Traditional Boston-style thoracolumbosacral orthoses (TLSO) in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) patients, following Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) and The International Scientific Society on Scoliosis Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT) recommendations for non-operative AIS management and research studies. This group of patients that reach the threshold for bracing have an intrinsic higher risk for curve progression. Hence, the proposed study will provide novel and high quality evidence to improve the efficacy of bracing in the non-operative treatment of AIS. This will contribute significantly to the betterment of public health by reducing the number of patients requiring surgical intervention. Ultimately, new evidence-based clinical practice guidelines on the most effective type of scoliosis braces will benefit children diagnosed with AIS worldwide.
