Spinal Stabilization Exercises for Low Back Pain in Adolescents With Idiopathic Scoliosis
Adolescent Idiopathic ScoliosisLow Back PainDo spinal stabilization exercises demonstrate immediate and long-term effects of weight weeks of spinal stabilization exercises as measured by pain intensity and quality of life scores? Does eight weeks of spinal stabilization exercises improve back muscle endurance in adolescents with Idiopathic Scoliosis (IS) with low back pain (LBP), compared to a one-time treatment (control)? Hypotheses: The research hypothesis for Question 1 is: Participants who receive eight weeks of spinal stabilization exercises will demonstrate significantly improved pain intensity and quality of life scores compared to participants who receive a one-time treatment after eight weeks of the intervention period and at six-month follow-up. The research hypothesis for Question 2 is: Participants who receive eight weeks of the spinal stabilization exercises will demonstrate significantly improved back muscle endurance, compared to participants who receive a one-time treatment after eight weeks of intervention.

This reduces the capacity of the respiratory muscles to produce force, and results in respiratory muscle weakness. The diaphragm, which is the major respiratory muscle, is also a component of the core muscles responsible for postural stability. Therefore, diaphragm muscle weakness results in deterioration of postural stability. Our aim in this study is to investigate the effect of inspiratory muscle training added to the routine scoliosis exercise program on postural stability and posture perception.

Interventions based on mobile health (mHealth) technologies, geared towards increasing familiarity with surgical procedures and hospital environments have been shown to help patients feel informed about possible benefits and risks of available treatment options. mHealth apps and Virtual Reality (VR) can offer patients experience in the perioperative environment that can be helpful in empowering patients and enhancing a more positive experience, while reducing stress. However, available applications focus only on providing informative content, neglecting the importance of patient empowerment with a more robust educational curriculum. According to this, the Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) CARINAE, aims to support patients and caregivers during the whole perioperative process. SaMD CARINAE consists of an mHealth mobile application for patients and caregivers, a Virtual Reality headset for patients, and a web application for healthcare professionals.
