Intravenous Lignocaine as an Analgesic Adjunct in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Surgery
Adolescent Idiopathic ScoliosisAnalgesiaThis is a single-center study comparing the effect of intravenous (IV) Lignocaine given throughout posterior spinal fusion surgery on the reduction of morphine usage during postoperative period in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients.

The Effects of Scoliosis-Specific Exercises Before Surgery
Adolescent Idiopathic ScoliosisThe aim of this study is to investigate the effects of scoliosis-specific exercises in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients, who had surgical indication, on functional capacity, cosmetic deformity perception, quality of life in postoperative period.

MOUVSCO: Kinematic Analysis of the Trunk in Patients With Moderate Scoliosis
ScoliosisThe hypothesis of this study is that moderate scoliosis patients have postural and kinematic differences (static and dynamic) compared with healthy volunteers and it is possible to characterize and quantify. The aim of this study is the detailed analysis of postural anomalies in moderate scoliosis patients compared with healthy volunteers

Using Radiation-free Ultrasound for Screening Scoliosis Among School Children in Hong Kong to Reduce...
ScoliosisIn the scoliosis screening program of the Student Health Service (SHS), Department of Health (DH), in Hong Kong, more than 50% of screened school children prescribed with x-ray examination basing on the screening protocol did not have Cobb angle greater than the referral threshold of 20°; ie they did not need specialist referral and thus were subjected to unnecessary x-ray exposure. Our primary objective is to determine whether a new radiation-free ultrasound system could identify subjects with Cobb angle greater than the referral threshold of 20° thus avoiding unnecessary x-rays in the referral workflow. The secondary objective is to evaluate if Angle of Trunk Rotation (ATR) can further increase the accuracy of ultrasound assessment.

Skeletal Muscle and Adipose Tissue Study
Idiopathic ScoliosisThe purpose of this research study is to compare the current standard of care for prophylactic Cefazolin administered every 3 hours intravenously with continuous infusion of Cefazolin during pediatric spinal surgery.

Pilot Study of Functional and Morphometric Brain Abnormalities Related to Adolescent Idiopathic...
Adolescent Idiopathic ScoliosisAdolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is a complex deformity with different curves. These different curves may be distinguished by different physiopathologic mechanisms. Without fully convincing model of the emergence and development of AIS, their multifactorial nature seems evident. Several pathophysiological theories involving the central nervous system have been proposed: the AIS would be associated with disturbances of proprioceptive or sensory perception, and/or with integration of this information. This would result in an abnormal body image, responsible for sensorimotor asymmetry that may promote or cause the deformation. The Main aim of this study is to find cortical and subcortical morphometric differences in the most common population of AIS (right thoracic AIS) compared to healthy adolescent control girls. Secondary Objectives are to study the cerebral white matter of the same groups (fractional anisotropy in the main white matter tracts), and activation of sensorimotor neural networks (fMRI activation and functional brain connectivity). Abnormalities of the studied parameters may be used as biomarkers for AIS diagnosis and classification.

Effect of Intraoperative Paravertebral Block on Postoperative Pain and Recovery in Patients Undergoing...
ScoliosisPain management after scoliosis surgery is challenging for the anesthesiologists. This surgery causes severe postoperative pain and patients undergoing these operations are children or adolescents who are increased pain sensation compared with adults. Therefore, we aim to evaluate whether intraoperative paravertebral block (PVB) decreases postoperative pain in these patients. Thirty-two patients scheduled for mechanical correction due to scoliosis will be divided into PVB (n=16) and control (n=16) groups. Randomly selected patients of the PVB group are performed PVB with 0.2% ropivacaine on both sides. In contrast, PVB are not performed in the control group.

Efficacy of Ketamine for Improvement in Postoperative Pain Control After Spinal Fusion for Idiopathic...
Idiopathic ScoliosisPost-operative PainThis study hypothesizes that the addition of a low-dose ketamine infusion to usual post-operative pain management will improve pain control as evidenced by an improvement in post-operative pain scores for patients undergoing spinal fusion for idiopathic scoliosis.

Use of the Scolioscan for Quantitative Evaluation of Spinal Deformity - A Validity Study on Patients...
ScoliosisThe purpose of the study is to investigate the validity of Scolioscan for quantitative assessment of curve severity in scoliosis using x-ray radiographs as the gold standard.

Impact of Age on Surgical Outcome of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis
ScoliosisThis is a study prospectively enrolling adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients and try to find how the age will impact the surgical outcome of AIS.
