Oxygen Consumption in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis

Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis

Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) is a rotational deformity of the spine that could be seen 2-3% of population. Conservative treatment of AIS with 20-45 degree lateral flexion angle (Cobb) includes brace and therapeutic exercises. Some gait abnormalities were defined like decreased torsional movements of spine, increased muscular work and energy expenditure in AIS. Additionally wearing a brace limits pelvic motions and affects pendulum-like mechanism of gait. Our aim was to investigate gait energy consumption, pulmonary functions, balance and lower extremity loading symmetry in AIS subjects who are getting conservative treatment.

Idiopathic Scoliosis and Orthodontic Treatment

Idiopathic Scoliosis

Scoliotic pathology remains to this day little known, on the one hand in its etiologies but also in its various implications and possible associations. One of the notable questions found in the literature is concerned with the link between idiopathic scoliosis and the stomatognathic system. This question arises from the study of the anatomy and function of its two entities. The aim of the study is to determine the frequency of orthodontic treatment in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis, and to compare it with that of adolescents without spinal dysmorphism.

Assessing the Quality of Life in Adults With Spinal Deformity

ScoliosisQuality of Life

Spinal deformities, such as scoliosis, can have a significant impact on the physical and psychological health of patients. Over time, specific tools for this condition have been developed to investigate the extent of this impact, such as the SRS-22 questionnaire and ISYQOL questionnaire. The latter was initially used for underage patients, but given that some of them continue their therapy and the monitoring beyond the age of 18, we have continued its use in these subjects as well. Given the clinical usefulness and given the lack of questionnaires developed in the Rasch environment for adults, we have extended the application of the ISYQOL questionnaire to the adult population. However, a comparison between the ISYQOL and SRS-22 in adults has not yet been made. The objective of this study is to verify the validity of ISYQOL and to compare the properties of ISYQOL with those of the SRS-22 questionnaire in adults with spinal deformity.

Preoperative and Peroperative Comparison Between 3D Spine Reconstructions

Scoliosis IdiopathicNavigation3 more

The objective is to collect data from a per-operative navigation system called SURGIVISIO during scoliosis surgeries. A research program is in progress in order super-impose pre-operative 3D reconstructions of the spine performed with the EOS system on the per-operative 3D reconstructions performed with the SURGIVISIO system. The purpose of the study is to collect the pre and per operatives data in order to perform the research and development program.

Scoliosis Tele-Screening Test

ScoliosisPosture Disorders in Children

A new Scoliosis Tele-Screening Test (STS-Test) was developed by a study group of the "Scoliosis Research and Treatment Association Turkey". It will be sent to the families of schoolchildren by e-mail in Turkey. Participants with moderate and high risk for scoliosis according to the result of this test will be invited to the physical examination by the scoliosis specialists, if it is not possible, they will be evaluated via tele-medicine. Participants with moderate and high risks will be invited to the physical examination to the centers designated as research centers. Families who could not reach these centers will be asked to take pictures of their children according to the given instruction. They will be asked to send this photo to the researchers by e-mail. The researchers will be evaluated the TRACE and Adams' test from the photo and sent their opinions to the parents via e-mail. If this virtual analysis made by the expert suggests a suspicion of scoliosis, it will be recommended to see a specialist as soon as possible. The aim of this study is to evaluate the validity and reliability of this novel scoliosis tele-screening test. A secondary aim is to investigate the coherence of this new test between scoliosis physician and parent when applied to the same child. Specificity, sensitivity, negative predictive value, positive predictive value, and test accuracy will be calculated for the Scoliosis Tele-Screening Test. Correlation between STS-Test and Trace, Adams' test, and physician diagnosis will be analyzed.
