Preliminary Evaluation of an Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) to Prevent Motion Sickness...
Motion SicknessMotion sickness directly impacts the readiness of the Army's aviation units. Severe motion sickness results in the dismissal of pilot and air crew candidates during initial training, while minor to moderate symptoms can be distracting during flight. The current medications on the market that target motion sickness symptoms are prohibited for use before flight. Osteopathic Manipulative Techniques are a low to no cost option, which lacks side effects, that allows Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine flight surgeons the opportunity to treat crew members without the use of pharmaceuticals. If effective, these techniques could be used to ensure aircrew readiness. Given the paucity of research on such a technique, a small, pilot study was conducted to demonstrate potential for such an approach.
Non-pharmaceutical Motion Sickness Mitigation
HealthyThe purpose of this study is evaluate the effect of timing and magnitude on the administration of our nonpharmaceutical treatment to motion sickness, and to evaluate the effect of Galvanic Vestibular Stimulation (GVR) amplitude on functional fitness task performance.
Levo Phencynonate Hydrochloride for the Prevention of Seasickness
Motion SicknessA double-blind, randomized, placebo controlled, multicenter, dose-finding phaseⅡclinical superiority study.
Effects of Transdermal Scopolamine on Occupational Performance
Motion SicknessThe purpose of this study is to determine the effects of Transdermal scopolamine vs. placebo on ship navigation performance under simulated heavy sea conditions.
Sensory Training for Orientation and Balance
Motion SicknessVertigo2 moreThis is a preliminary study of how human beings control balance and how symptoms of visually-induced dizziness may result in falls. The researchers created new tests of orientation and balance, as well as a new treatment for visually-induced dizziness. The researchers will use the new tests and treatments with adults who are affected by visually-induced dizziness. Testing is done twice before and once after treatment. The total time participants are involved in the study is approximately two weeks.
Does a Migraine Medication Decrease Rotational Motion Sickness in People Suffering From Migraines?...
MigraineThe purpose of this study is to determine if Rizatriptan, a migraine medication, lowers motion sickness in migraine sufferers.
Countermeasures to Reduce Sensorimotor Impairment and Space Motion Sickness Resulting From Altered...
VestibularThe investigators will study adaptation of motion perception and manual control in altered gravity, including the effects of a drug (promethazine). The investigators will also study whether promethazine affects motion perceptual thresholds.
A Comparative Bioavailability and Adhesion Performance Study, Comparing a New Scopolamine Transdermal...
Motion SicknessIn this comparative bioavailability and in vivo skin adhesion study, the impact of minor changes in qualitative composition of polyiso-Butylenes (PIB) from a different supplier and change of the manufacturing line of the micro porous membrane will be tested.
Meclizine Plasma Levels in Responders and Non-responders
SeasicknessMeclizineMotion sickness is a debilitating condition that can effect many crew members. Meclizine has long been known as an effective anti motion sickness drug. The response to the drug is variable - some are responders, while others are resistant to the drug. The aim of the present study is to examine whether there is a correlation between meclizine plasma levels and clinical response.
Nasal Gel Under Military Operational Conditions for the Prevention of Nausea Associated With Motion...
Motion SicknessThis multi-site Phase 3 clinical trial is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled and open label active-controlled study to identify the safety and efficacy of a repeated-dose regimen of DPI-386 nasal gel (intranasal scopolamine gel) for the prevention and treatment of motion sickness. The study will be conducted aboard Navy fleet or Marine ships undergoing military operations to obtain data in an operationally relevant real world environment.
