Coronavirus Infectious Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

This study is to establish an accurate, robust and easily scalable COVID-19 viral nucleic acid analysis platform from, but not limited to, saliva to help enable and support contact tracing in the canton of Baselland/ Switzerland. To achieve this, crude ribonucleotide acid (RNA) extraction from saliva is validated in combination with next-generation sequencing (NGS) diagnostics and loop mediated amplification (LAMP) assays as well as point of care test (POCT) for rapid detection of viral antigens on patients' samples.

Several publications document the occurrence of prolonged or late-onset symptoms beyond 3 weeks after the first clinical manifestations of SARS-COV2 infection. These manifestations may be related to thromboembolic or inflammatory events or other mechanisms that are not yet well understood. The psychosomatic origin secondary to psychiatric disorders prior to the infection or in reaction to it is also to be evoked. The identification of the clinical manifestations observed, and their clinical and paraclinical evolution are essential to better understand the natural evolution of COVID-19, to specify the physiopathological mechanisms and to identify potential avenues of management for the patients. In addition, the impact of COVID-19 infection on primary care visits is not known. In general practice, these patients benefit from explorations and even diagnoses that may explain the persistence of symptoms (autoimmune diseases, thrombosis, somatoform disorders, hyperventilation syndrome, etc.). The objective of the COCO_Vi_LATE project is to carry out a cross-sectional study of patients presenting persistent and/or recurrent symptoms after an infection with SARS-COV-2 who will be compared to individuals with a short form of infection with COVID-19

Cardiac Involvement With COVID-19

The Hearts of Athletes study is being conducted to determine the heart involvement with COVID-19 in athletes. This study aims to enroll any Adult (18 years of age or greater) • Athlete is defined as NCAA Collegiate Athlete, Professional Athlete, Military, or Olympic Athlete will be eligible for the study. With COVID-19 • COVID-19 diagnosed via an RT-PCR (nasal or throat swab test) prior to enrollment Or without COVID-19 • Identified as a local Control participant (similar sport) to a participant with COVID-19, who is willing to undergo a standard cardiovascular evaluation Participants with and without COVID-19 will use their mobile devices to provide health information, like symptoms, by answering survey questions daily for 30 days. Also, participants will allow their de-identified cardiac images to be sent to the Duke Heart Center for blinded analysis. No physical risks are associated with this study. One possible risk, although minimal, is loss of confidentiality.

In order to prevent reinfection, it is needed to detect the cellular-mediated immune response to the Sars-CoV-2 infection. The first goal of this study will be to detect the cellular-mediated immune response in patients affected by COVID-19 (with or without vaccination) and healthy subjects who undergone vaccination program. The second goal of this study will be to identify the genetic and epigenetic biomarkers that influence individual immunological response and clinical evolution to the severe manifestations of the COVID-19.

Effect of COVID-19 on Platelet Aggregation

This is a mechanistic, observational, prospective, case and control study, to compare platelet aggregation, analyzed by Multiplate-ADP, in hospitalized patients diagnosed with COVID-19 versus healthy controls. Thus will be included 60 patients who present with respiratory symptoms within 72 hours of hospitalization and confirmation of the diagnosis of COVID-19 by laboratory method (RT -PCR and / or positive serology for SARS-CoV-2 - COVID group); this group will be compared to 60 healthy individuals (asymptomatic and with negative SARS-CoV-2 serology), matched by sex and age to the previous group.
