COVID Infection in Pediatric Surgical Patient

COVID-19

Children infected with COVID-19 are mostly asymptomatic. There is a dearth of data on the epidemiology of COVID-19 in the pediatric population. This is a prospective observational clinical study of pediatric surgical patients. COVID-19 rapid antigen testing will be performed on pediatric patients.

COVID-19: Early Detection of Worsening by Voice and Respiratory Pattern Characteristics

Sars-CoV-2 InfectionCOVID-19

In some clinical forms of COVID-19, an uncontrolled hyper-inflammatory reaction known as a "cytokine storm" appears abruptly, around day 7, and is associated with rapid respiratory deterioration, requiring hospitalization in an intensive care unit (ICU). At present, although risk factors for this severe form have been described, there are no validated criteria for determining which individual patients will develop this aggravation. The study of respiratory sounds (amplitude, frequency, ...) has made it possible in other respiratory pathologies (e.g., chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) to predict exacerbations several days in advance. Having a predictive respiratory pattern for worsening in COVID-19 would make it possible to anticipate the need for intensive care hospital beds, by means of a tool easily available on a mobile phone.

Novel Face Mask Sampling for COVID-19: A Diagnostic and Public Health Tool

Covid19

COVID-19 has become a global problem. There is an urgent need to improve the diagnosis and screening of patients and healthcare workers for COVID-19 in the UK. Mask based sampling is a method of detecting SARS-COV-2 (the virus responsible for COVID-19) in the breath of suspected COVID-19 patients or healthcare workers in the mask that they would wear in hospital. The investigators have previously demonstrated the utility of this method in other respiratory infections, such as tuberculosis. This project aims to investigate the utility of mask-based sampling is a tool for the diagnosis and quantification of COVID-19 in breath and the implications in a healthcare setting using three cohorts of participants. Initially we will compare the amount of COVID-19 detected by mask sampling compared with standard nasopharyngeal swab, which is the current gold standard test, in patients who present to hospital with COVID-19 symptoms. We will address the length of time COVID-19 is breathed out by people affected by the virus and the how infectious the virus is over time in a cohort of symptomatic healthcare workers who are isolating at home. This will allow us to understand how long someone stays infectious for and may have the potential to inform public health measures, for instance when healthcare workers can return to work or duration of isolation. Finally we will investigate asymptomatic carriage of COVID-19 by different healthcare workers in different areas of the hospital during a screening study. This will allow us to understand the extent of infection amongst healthcare workers and allow us to address hospital acquired transmission.

Study of Specific Viral Immune Responses Induced by SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)

SARS-CoV-2 Infection

SARS-CoV-2, has caused an international outbreak of respiratory illness termed Covid-19. The investigators used peptides derived from SARS-CoV-2 virus, to study viral-specific immune responses. COV-CREM is a French prospective monocentric study that will evaluate viral-specific cell responses in positive patients for SARS-CoV-2 on the basis of (RT-PCR) assay performed in respiratory tract sample tested by our local Center for Disease Control.

COVID-19 Infection in Patients With Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Hepatocellular CarcinomaCOVID-19

Since December 2019, a new disease named COVID-19 linked to a new coronavirus, SARS-CoV2 has emerged in China in the city of Wuhan, Hubei province, spreading very quickly to all 5 continents, and responsible for a pandemic. France is the third most affected country in Europe after Italy and Spain. Groups of patients at a higher risk of developing a severe form of COVID-19 have been defined: this include patients with immunosuppressive disease as cancer or patients with advanced cirrhosis of the liver. Coronavirus liver injury had been described with SARS-CoV 1 and MERS-CoV. There is no data on liver damage associated with COVID-19 infection for compensated or decompensated cirrhotic patients. The objectives of this project are to estimate the incidence of COVID-19 in hepatocellular carcinoma population, both hospital and ambulatory, and to study the impact on the frequency of severe forms, the prognosis, but also liver function, and the management of hepatocellular carcinoma, in this context of pandemic

Antihistamines, Amantadine and Evolution of the SARS-CoV-2 Infection

COVID-19

The rates of symptomatic COVID19 infection, hospital admission among COVID19 cases and survival would be quantified in patiens chronically treated with antihistamines or amantadine, with the aim of determining the role of antihistamines and amantadine in the evolution of COVID19.

Long COVID-19 and MAB Study

COVID-19

This study will be observational only. It will provide real-world evidence generated from a representative and large-scale COVID patient base. The adoption, pilot testing and use of NIH PROs among viral tested patients with research purpose on long COVID will be unique and innovative. With the existing and proven scientific rigor, NIH PRO system will be adopted, then modified and tailored to form the long hauler specific, comprehensive instrument, helping generalize future knowledge regarding COVID-infected patients.

SCALE-UP Utah II: Community-Academic Partnership to Address COVID-19 Conversational Agent Study...

COVID-19

The long-term objective of SCALE-UP II is to increase the reach, uptake, and sustainability of COVID-19 testing among underserved populations. Through RADx-UP Phase I funding (SCALE-UP Utah), the team has established population health management (PHM) interventions that have been used since Feb 2021 to increase the uptake of COVID-19 testing and vaccination among community health center patients. Interventions are based on a PHM approach that uses widely available technology (i.e. cell phones and text messaging). SCALE-UP II will both build on SCALE-UP Utah PHM interventions and investigate novel resource conservation approaches (i.e., Request-Patient Navigation vs. No Patient Navigation and text messaging vs. conversational agent). SCALE-UP II builds on long standing partnerships among the University of Utah Clinical and Translational Science Institute (UofU CTSI), Association for Utah Community Health (AUCH), CHCs, and the Utah Department of Health(UDOH). CTSI and SCALE-UP II investigators are leading several COVID-19 initiatives that drive public health response and state government policies in Utah. Thus, the UofU team is uniquely positioned to lead this project.

Determination of COVID-19 Related Virus in Central Nervous System

COVID-19 TestingCNS Disease1 more

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a highly infectious pandemic disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus. Central Nervous System (CNS) complications associated with COVID-19 might be secondary sequelae due to exuberant systemic innate-mediated hyper-inflammation, which may impair neurovascular endothelial function, disrupt blood brain barrier (BBB), activates CNS innate immune signaling pathways, and induces parainfectious autoimmunity, potentially contributing to the CNS manifestations. Although the predominant clinical manifestation of SARS-CoV-2 is characterized by dyspnea, unremitting fever and hypoxemic respiratory failure, neurologic manifestations do occur in most hospitalized SARS-CoV-2 patients and include non-specific encephalopathy, psychosis, meningitis/encephalitis, myelitis, cerebrovascular events, Guillain-Barre' syndrome, and cranial or peripheral neuropathies, such as anosmia and ageusia. To date, data about primary CNS involvement due to neurotropism and direct neuroinvasion are still lacking.
