Impact of Social Distancing on Bariatric Versus Non-Surgical Obese Patients During COVID-19 Pandemic...

Diabetes MellitusType 23 more

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, weight management programs and metabolic surgery have been deferred to contain the virus. Quarantine and social distancing negatively impact dietary, exercise and psychological health of obese individuals. The study aims to evaluate the impact of social distancing measures on post-metabolic surgery patients compare to non-surgical obese patients and discuss potential strategies for management post COVID-19.

Thyroid Disease

Italy has been on the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, the need to focus resources to deal with the pandemic led to a disruption of routine surgical care, as well as activity for oncologic and chronic disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on surgical activity of the Italian Units of Endocrine Surgery belonging to the SIUEC (Italian Society of Endocrine Surgery), the most important national scientific society of endocrine surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on surgical activity of the Italian Units of Endocrine Surgery belonging to the SIUEC (Italian Society of Endocrine Surgery), the most important national scientific society of endocrine surgery.

Non-invasive Prognostication of COVID-19 Patients by Use of Biomarkers in Exhaled Breath Condensate...

Covid19Corona Virus Infection

The main objective of this study is to assess if analysis of exhaled breath condensate (EBC) can provide useful prognostic markers for admission to the intensive care unit (ICU) due to acute respiratory insufficiency among patients with Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Additionally, to give a characterization of the lung damage caused by COVID-19 by analysis of daily blood samples. The hypothesis is that the protein content of the EBC from COVID-19 patients who require admission to the ICU differs from the EBC from COVID-19 patients with uncomplicated hospitalization, potentially providing diagnostic markers of COVID-19 related pulmonary damage.

Collecting Respiratory Sound Samples From Corona Patients to Extend the Diagnostic Capability of...

COVID-19

Technological developments in the recent decades has enabled the integration of electronic and digital components in the stethoscope design, in an attempt to improve auditory performance and, moreover, to assist in improving user's diagnostic accuracy by incorporating computerized, digital technologies, artificial intelligence capabilities and deep-learning-based algorithms enhancing these devices. We believe that these technologies can be used to significantly improve the diagnostic performance in the primary care phase, by means of a sophisticated stethoscope that enables auscultation to sounds and signals typically found in the sub-sound frequency level. Their transformation into the sound range, and the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to characterize sound patterns that correspond to specific problems or diseases can substantially enhance the physician's or other care giver's performance to the benefit of the patients. At this stage, the software in development does not purport to make diagnostic decisions, but only to provide information that will enhance decision and diagnosis making process, therefore enable a more accurate and definitive diagnostic decision and perhaps decrease the number of additional diagnostic tests requested.

Balance Function in Patients Post Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Covid19

The purpose of this study is to describe balance deficits in patients post COVID-19. The information the investigators learn may help influence balance training exercises for patients post-COVID-19. Participants will have a primary or secondary diagnosis of COVID-19 during hospitalization and off COVID-19 isolation and be receiving care in an acute inpatient hospital. Following consent, participants will complete balance assessments and questionnaires about balance and dizziness in a single session. Vital signs will be monitored during the session. The greatest risks of this study include shortness of breath, and a risk of falling or musculoskeletal soreness. These risks are no greater than those experienced during a usual physical therapy visit.
