A Trial to Investigate the Effect of Different Supplements on Fluid and Sodium Status in Short Bowel...

Short Bowel Syndrome

Patients with short bowel intestinal failure are recommended to aim for a diet high in energy and protein. Some patients have difficulties in achieving recommended intakes and additional nutrition may be provided by oral nutritional supplements. There is very little research completed on which is the best oral nutritional supplement for patients. The aim of the study is to see the effect different oral nutritional supplements have on your stoma or fistula output and levels of hydration.

Study of Teduglutide Effectiveness in Parenteral Nutrition (PN)-Dependent Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS)...

Short Bowel Syndrome

Teduglutide is an investigative medicine being evaluated as a possible treatment for people with parenteral nutrition (PN) dependent Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS). Teduglutide is similar to a protein the body makes. When people have SBS, their bodies do not make enough of the protein and they have trouble getting nutrients and fluids from the food they eat and drink. This study was designed to provide evidence of efficacy, safety, and tolerability of teduglutide 0.05 mg/kg daily in SBS subjects.

Use of Pancreatic Enzymes in Short Bowel Syndrome

Short Bowel Syndrome

Patients with short bowel syndrome have a high mortality rate that is mainly attributed to complications from central lines and long-term intravenous (IV) nutrition. There are few medical therapies to date that improve gut absorption in patients with short bowel syndrome. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate if absorption from the GI tract improves in subjects with short bowel syndrome following therapy with pancreatic enzymes.

The Preventative and Therapeutical Effect of Ursodeoxycholic Acid(UDCA) to Short Bowel Syndrome...

Short Bowel Syndrome

The efficacy of UDCA in treating the parenteral nutrition-associated cholestasis(PNAC) has been identified by some studies in children without short bowel syndrome(SBS).Most of the adults who suffering PNAC have SBS. it limits the potential function of UDCA because of the lack of SBS patients and malabsorption of UDCA.Therefore, we design this clinical trial in our center of SBS to approach the preventative and therapeutical effect of UDCA to PNAC in adults with short bowel syndrome.
