Medical Therapy Versus Balloon Sinus Dilation for Patients With Chronic Rhinosinusitis
SinusitisThis post-market study aims to compare health outcomes for Chronic Rhinosinusitis (CRS) patients treated with balloon sinus dilation (BSD) versus continued medical management.
Medical Therapy Versus Sinus Surgery for Chronic Rhinosinusitis: A Prospective, Multi-institutional...
Chronic RhinosinusitisSinusitisThis investigation is a prospective, multi-institutional cohort study comparing the differences in health-related quality-of-life (HRQoL) improvements between subjects electing continued medical management for chronic rhinosinusitis and those electing medical management plus surgical intervention. Our hypothesis is 3 fold: 1. That patients electing continued medical management will have less disease severity as measured by CT and baseline HRQoL scores, 2. Patients undergoing medical management plus ESS for chronic rhinosinusitis will experience a larger improvement in health related quality of life (HRQoL)compared to patients electing medical management alone, and 3. Patients undergoing medical management plus ESS for chronic rhinosinusitis will use fewer antibiotics, systemic steroids, and miss fewer days of work/school compared to patients electing medical management alone.
Near Infrared Transillumination of the Paranasal Sinuses
SinusitisThis research project designed to diagnose sinusitis using a simple and low-cost optical tool. Healthy sinuses are typically filled with air, and show up as bright spots on the camera. Infected sinuses are filled with fluid and show up dark spots on the camera. Images of infected sinuses could be used to diagnose sinusitis, or to check if surgical treatments on the sinuses have been successful.
Prevalence of Chronic Rhinosinusitis in Cystic Fibrosis
Cystic FibrosisSinusitisAim of the study is to detect the prevalence of chronic rhinosinusitis and the colonisation with Pseudomonas aerug. in the upper airways in patients with cystic fibrosis.
A User Study of SYNUS Pain Relief Made by Tivic Health Systems
Sinus; InflammationDemonstrate the ability of subjects suffering from sinus pain to self-treat with the SYNUS Pain Relief device and to obtain pain relief compared to a sham/placebo device.
Propofol Versus Sevoflurane During FESS
Sinus Infection ChronicGood surgical conditions are crucial for an optimal surgery result and safe procedure. Minimal blood loss in the surgical field is one of the most important conditions to maintain a good visualization, especially in surgeries with a small surgical field such as a FESS (functional endoscopic sinus surgery). The perioperative blood loss is determined by the main arterial and venous pressure, the local pressure and the capillary vascular filling pressure. It has been proposed that propofol is a venodilator, which increases the blood flow, but decreases the capillary pressure. On the contrary, sevoflurane might act mainly on the arterioles, which causes an increase in the capillary pressure. In a previous study it has been demonstrated that despite blood pressure maintenance, propofol causes less bleeding during spinal surgery than sevoflurane. The main aim of this study was to compare both anaesthetics on the perioperative bleeding and haemodynamics during FESS. Secondary, the postoperative nausea, vomiting, pain scores, surgery duration and length of stay at the post-anesthesia care unit will be evaluated.
Determinants of Medical and Surgical Treatment Outcomes in Chronic Sinusitis
Chronic RhinosinusitisThis research study will be completed by enrolling a prospective, observational cohort study to evaluate medical versus surgical treatment outcomes for chronic sinus disease. This investigation will compare quality of life outcomes between each treatment type, as well as measure cellular and molecular markers of inflammation in the sinus mucosa, to create models that predict improvement in quality of life following treatment.
Microarray Analysis of Sinus Samples From Patients With and Without Chronic Rhinosinusitis.
Chronic RhinosinusitisThe purpose of this study is to compare the bacteria, fungi, and viruses that are present in the sinuses of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis to patients without sinus disease using a new technology, called a microarray, that will allow more accurate identification of microorganisms than current laboratory methods.
Chronic Otitis Media With Effusion in Chronic Sinusitis With Polyps
Chronic Rhinosinusitis With Nasal Polyposis (CRSwNP)The relationship between otitis media with effusion (OME) and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP) remains unclear. A cross-sectional study of 80 consecutively presenting patients who were diagnosed with CRSwNP was conducted. The aim was to ascertain the prevalence of OME in CRSwNP patients, to determine whether the severity of CRSwNP affected OME, and to identify risk factors for OME in CRSwNP patients.
Nanoparticles in Nasal Mucosa
Chronic Hypertrophic RhinosinusitisChronic Polypous RhinosinusitisThe aim of this prospective study is to evaluate presence and quantity of nano-sized particles and interindividual differences in their distribution and elemental composition in human nasal mucosa obtained by mucotomy in patients diagnosed with chronic hypertrophic rhinosinusitis and to compare the obtained results with control specimen obtained from stillborn children.
