Genetic Susceptibility to Radiation-Induced Skin Reactions in Racial/Ethnic Groups of Patients With...

Breast CancerCognitive Ability6 more

RATIONALE: Radiation therapy uses high-energy x rays to kill tumor cells. Radiation therapy may cause skin reactions when patients are exposed to high-energy x rays. Studying the genetic pattern of patients before and after radiation therapy may help doctors prevent toxicity and plan the best treatment. PURPOSE: This clinical trial studies genetic susceptibility to radiation-induced skin reactions in racial/ethnic groups of patients with breast cancer.

Riboflavin Corneal Crosslinking for Brittle Cornea Syndrome and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Type VI

Brittle Cornea SyndromeEhlers-Danlos Syndrome Type 6

Brittle Cornea Syndrome and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) type VI are rare collagen-connective tissue disorders that predispose affected individuals to the development of perforated corneas from the mildest of eye trauma or even spontaneously. Clinical studies evaluating riboflavin-corneal crosslinking have found that it dramatically increases corneal rigidity. Given the success and safety of riboflavin crosslinking, the investigators believe that it can increase the corneal stability in patients affected these disseases, preventing perforation. It is furthermore possible, that riboflavin crosslinking will allow corneal transplants to successfully be performed on blind eyes that have already perforated and opacified. The purpose of the study is to determine whether corneal crosslinking can be safely performed on individuals with Brittle Cornea Syndrome or Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome type VI.

Safety of Formalin-free Fixatives for In-Vivo Fixation of Skin Lesions.

Skin Abnormality

Existing methods of diagnosing and treating skin lesions are either surgical, which enables an histological diagnosis or destructive (electrodesiccation, liquid nitrogen, laser, caustics) with no possibility of obtaining histology. The ingredients of current formulations for in-vivo skin fixation (Mohs, Solcoderm) are unstable, inconvenient for application and painful - therefore their use was abandoned. The investigators will examine the safety of stable formalin-free formulations for in-vivo fixation of human skin lesions .These formulations were safe and had a rapid onset of fixation effect in in-vivo animal studies.

Skin Diseases and Pregnancy: Which Heathcare Professionals ?

Skin AbnormalitiesPregnancy

Pregnancy-induced physiological dermatological changes are common. In 2016, they represented between 23% (acne) and 75% (pigmentary changes) of pregnancies in France. Some dermatological changes require medical advice to identify a possible pathological rash. These pathological rashes can be dangerous for the mother or the fetus. The aim of this study is to assess the prevalence of skin diseases during pregnancy and to evaluate the care pathway in a healthcare sector (Vendee) for these pregnant women?

Hand Sanitizer Effects on the Skin Barrier

Dermatitis HandSkin Abnormalities2 more

Hand washing and the use of hand sanitizers are important interventions in disease prevention. Engaging in frequent hand washing is especially effective in preventing the spread of viruses, as this removes microbes and prevents the spread to others. Hand dermatitis, however, is a common occurrence in certain occupations, such as healthcare workers. With the onset of the SARS-CoV2 (COVID-19) pandemic, hand hygiene measures are further enforced as there is no cure or vaccine for this virus. In the study, the effects of hand washing and the use of hand sanitizer on skin proteins and lipids will be assessed.
