Infections Caused by ESbL-Producing Enterobacteriaceae in Italy

Enterobacteriaceae InfectionsBacteremia3 more

To assess the molecular epidemiology, clinical impact, treatment outcome and risk factors for infections caused by Enterobacteriaceae producing ESBLs in Italy in a large multicenter observational survey. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES To collect consecutive nonreplicate isolates of Enterobacteriaceae resistant to expanded-spectrum cephalosporins from clinical specimens from inpatients and outpatients. To characterize the isolates for resistance phenotypes and for β-lactam resistance mechanisms. To investigate the clonality of isolates. To analyse the epidemiology of various resistance mechanisms/resistant clones. To collect clinical and epidemiological data for patients with infections caused by the ESBL producers. To analyse the epidemiology, risk factors and outcome for infections caused by ESBL producers.

Serotonin Levels in Atopic Dermatitis Patients

Dermatologic Disease

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic pruritic inflammatory skin disease of unknown aetiology. Global prevalence rates range from 1%-20%.AD is often worsened by stress and anxiety.Plasma levels of 5-HT were found to be positively correlated with the disease severity.

Use of the SpiderMass for in Vivo Analysis of the Skin in Five Chronic Inflammatory Dermatosis

AcneAtopic Dermatitis4 more

The physiological states of the skin are characterized by a certain homeostasis linked to the balance of the metabolic pathways. When these pathways are deregulated, the proteic, lipidic and metabolic is affected. It is thus possible to follow a change in the state of the skin by looking at change in the associated molecular profile. The PRISM laboratory (INSERM U1192) in Lille has developed an innovative system laser called SpiderMass composed of 4 parts: A laser used for the micro-sampling of material in vivo, A transport transfer line of the ablated particles, A mass spectrometer that analyzes them in real time and generates the molecular profiles of the epidermis, A data analysis procedure. The SpiderMass(TM) is of great interest for the study of the skin because it allows non-invasive vivo characterization, and therefore without biopsy or sample preparation. In addition, it will complement techniques already used in the research center such as FTIR spectroscopy. Indeed, in acne studies the FTIR allows to obtain only the Fatty Acid Triglycerid ratio while the SpiderMass permits to detail these lipid classes by each observed molecule on the surface of the skin and follow their evolution.

Predicting Breast Flap Necrosis by Spatial Frequency Domain Imaging

Disorders of Skin Grafts and Flaps

The current surgical procedure for breast diseases places an emphasis on the conservation of breast skin in order to provide more optimal reconstruction. The purpose of this study is to use portable, non-contact optical imaging device developed at the Beckman Laser Institute called Spatial Frequency Domain Imaging to detect the changes in a skin during reconstructive surgery procedure and healing process.

Role of Angiogenesis in Dermatologic Diseases: A Potential Therapeutic Target

Dermatologic Diseases

The researchers believe that pro-angiogenic factors are upregulated in a wide range of dermatologic diseases including port wine stains, hemangiomas, angiofibromas, Kaposi's sarcoma, angiosarcoma, scars, rosacea and psoriasis. The researcher can perform immunohistochemistry and/or microarray analysis and/or quantitative polymerase chain reaction on previously biopsied skin specimens and newly biopsied skin specimens to evaluate the expression of various angiogenic factors in these dermatologic diseases. In addition, some of the skin specimens may be utilized to make cell cultures to study expression of angiogenic factors and interactions of cells in dermatologic disease.

Identification of Mutations Responsible for Rare Familial Skin Diseases by Next Generation Sequencing...

Familial LipomatosisVery Rare Dermatologic Diseases

The primary purpose of the protocol is to use next generation sequencing to identify pathogenic variants in genes involved in very rare skin diseases. The secondary purpose will be to study the genotype-phenotype correlation in order to re-evaluate the classification of these disorders. This work could help in the understanding of the physiopathology of very rare skin disorders.
