Obstructive Sleep Apnea

To describe the relationship between OSA and clinical Hypertension (performing ABPM), endothelial dysfunction (performing flowmetry), and its relation at the basic research (determining the β1 subunit in Peripheral Leukocytes in peripheral blood). This relation between OSA and HTA has been evaluated in basal conditions and after modifying the pathophysiological role of OSA applying treatment with positive continues pressure (CPAP) during 3 months.

Sleep Apnea Syndrome

Venous thromboembolism(VTE) is the third most common cardiovascular complication among hospitalized patients, and can even cause death. VTE often occurs in intensive care patients and there had been many efforts to prevent such complication. The American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) had published evidence-based clinical practice guideline for VTE prophylaxis. This study focuses on how VTE prophylaxis is being performed in both medical and surgical ICUs in a single University hospital, and sees the differences in such prophylactic patterns.

Sleep and Stent Study: a Multicentre, Prospective Study

Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Elucidating the effects of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) on cardiovascular outcomes is crucial in risk assessments and therapeutic recommendations for affected individuals. The Sleep and Stent Study is a multi-center observational study investigating the relationships between OSA and cardiovascular outcomes in patients treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Oxygen Monitoring of Patients After Surgery on the Hospital General Care Floor

Sleep Disordered Breathing

The pain medication given after major surgery may cause some patients to stop breathing for periods of time especially at night time. An oxygen monitor may reflect this abnormal breathing pattern. This is an observational study of 100 post-operative patients who will be monitored with a pulse oximeter for a minimum of two nights and a maximum of five nights to determine the prevalence of this abnormal breathing pattern.

Sleep ApneaGastroesophageal Reflux Disease

This trial is enrolling patients who are already being seen at OHSU weight loss clinic or have been referred for clinical reasons by their physician to the OHSU weight loss clinic and are going to have a esophageal manometry that would be paid for by their insurance company for clinical reasons. In patients undergoing weight loss surgery investigators plan to study the effect of continuous positive airway pressure during a esophageal manometry.

Obstructive Sleep ApneaResistant Hypertension

This study aims to investigate the prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in subjects with resistant hypertension and to evaluate the relationship between parameters of OSA severity and blood pressure control

Heated Humidified Continuous Positive Airway Pressure and Nasal Physiology

Obstructive Sleep Apnea SyndromeNasal Obstruction

Nasal continuous positive airway pressure can cause nasal side effects which can compromise compliance to therapy. Humidifiers can attenuate this effect. However, the mechanism by which humidified CPAP alleviates nasal symptoms has never been assessed objectively in OSA patients. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the effect of humidified CPAP on nasal airway physiology with combined measurements of nasal resistance and level of inflammatory markers. The investigators' hypothesis is that the addition of heated humidification in CPAP decreases nasal airway resistance and nasal mucosal inflammation markers and thus, ameliorates nasal symptoms of OSAS patients.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the long-term durability of the treatment and safety of the Provent device for those individuals who were enrolled in the C009 study, were diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea (OSAH), and were actively using the Provent device.

Study to Assess the Changes in Blood Clotting Factors and Blood Vessel Wall Function in Obstructive...

Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Obstructive sleep apnea is a condition in which people have decreased breathing during their sleep. Untreated sleep apnea has been linked to increased risk for cardiovascular diseases. This research study is looking at blood clotting factors and blood vessel function in health volunteers and patients with newly diagnosed or untreated obstructive sleep apnea to better understand the underlying mechanisms for increased cardiovascular risk.

Study of Pain Processing in Subjects Suffering From Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Sleep ApneaObstructive

We would like to test the effect of opioid medication on pain sensitivity in subjects who have been diagnosed with a sleep disorder called Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) compared to other subjects without OSA. Patients with OSA may have an altered sensitivity to the sedative, analgesic, and respiratory depressant effects of opioids.
