New Data Analysis Methods for Actigraphy in Sleep Medicine
Obstructive Sleep ApneaRestless Leg Syndrome1 moreThe purpose of this study is to develop statistical and informatics tools for analyzing and visualizing Actical™ (actigraphy) data linked to fatigue in Sleep Medicine Center patients.
Identification of Sleep-Disordered Breathing in Children
SleepSleep Apnea Syndromes1 moreThe purpose of this research is to study and improve the methods used to detect childhood breathing problems during sleep that can affect daytime behavior at home and school. Early diagnosis of these sleep disorders may allow doctors to treat children at a time when the consequences can still be reversed.
Prevalence of Sleep Apnea in Women
Lung DiseasesSleep Apnea SyndromesTo identify the prevalence of sleep apnea (SA) in women and its relationship to age; to predict those women at risk for sleep apnea; and to define the natural history of those with sleep apnea.
Continuation Protocol for Study Using Negative Pressure to Reduce Apnea Trial
Obstructive Sleep ApneaSleep ApneaThe goal of this study is to allow continued access to the aerSleep II System for subjects that have completed the SOM-029 study until the device is commercially available.
Obstructive Sleep Apnoea and Adipose Tissue Dysfunction
Obstructive Sleep ApnoeaObesity1 moreDysfunctional adipose tissue predisposes to cardiovascular disease. Similarly, the risk of cardiovascular disease appears to be increased in subjects with obstructive sleep apnoea. Reduced adipose tissue oxygen availability has been described in obesity and may also be a mechanism in obstructive sleep apnoea. Hypoxia induces inflammation and fibrosis in adipose tissue which are factors contributing to cardiovascular risk. The investigators hypothesize that adipose tissue's oxygen uptake is reduced in subjects with obstructive sleep apnoea by comparing in vivo AT oxygenation and blood flow in tissue of control subjects.
PASHOS Project: Advanced Platform for Sleep Apnea Syndrome Assessment
Sleep Apnea SyndromeThe purpose of this study is to develop and validate a work-model in Primary Health Care for identifying patients with Sleep Apnea Syndrome, based on clinical variables and an ambulatory monitoring study.
Sleep-related Breathing Disorders in Cardiological Outpatients
Sleep Apnea SyndromesThe purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence of sleep-related breathing disorders (SRBD) in clinically stable cardiologic outpatients of a German university clinic by means of polygraphy. Furthermore, the practicability of the underlying diagnostic process in clinical application is assessed as well as the sensitivity and specificity of polygraphy as compared to the reference standard of polysomnography. Another aim is to determine the individual cardiovascular risk profile by pulse wave analysis and risk classification according to European Society of Hypertension (ESH) and European Society of Cardiology (ESC), "ESH/ESC risk".
Improving the STOP-Bang Screening Questionnaire for Patients With Sleep Apnea
Sleep ApneaMetabolic SyndromeThe study is being conducted to test the ability of a simple questionnaire to detect mild, moderate or severe obstructive sleep apnea. The investigators are also investigating whether adding the size of the neck and waist can add to the accuracy of the questionnaire. The study will be conducted at the Center for Sleep Medicine at Tufts Medical Center. The investigators hope to enroll 250 patients in our study at Tufts Medical Center.

Sleep ApneaEvolution of swallowing in patients undergoing lateral pharyngoplasty with preservation stylopharyngeal muscle.
Erectile Dysfunction in Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea: Effects of CPAP Therapy
Obstructive Sleep ApneaErectile DysfunctionObstructive sleep apnea has been linked to erectile dysfunction. Furthermore, small studies suggest that treatment of sleep apnea by continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) may reverse erectile dysfunction in affected patients. The present study aims to investigate in a larger cohort if severe sleep apnea is independently associated with erectile dysfunction and if 6-12 months of CPAP therapy lead to an improvement of erectile dysfunction.
