However, objective and reliable data on this relationship are scarce for children with developmental disabilities. Parent burnout in this population is high and there are many barriers to engagement with such interventions. This study aims to understand the feasibility of providing an exercise intervention for this population, and gathering parental views on the impact of such an intervention. Depending on the outcome of this feasibilty study, larger scale interventions may be planned to further examine the impact of such an intervention.

A total of 873 patients were recruited from the inpatient cardiology department of the Affiliated Jiangning Hospital and the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. Investigators used a 17-item sleep factors questionnaire (SFQ) to evaluate sleep habits comprehensively by face-to-face interview.

The severity of the disorder is expressed by the Apnea Hypopnea Index (AHI) which is the number of Apnea/Hypopnea episodes per hours of actual sleep and the Respiratory Disturbances Index (RDI) which is an extended index incorporating in addition to the previous episodes also respiratory effort related arousal episodes. The high cost of in-lab full night PSG, together with long waiting lists for sleep studies, have led to the development of a variety of ambulatory sleep study systems. The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the newly developed WP200 with the unified probe (WP200U) compared to the currently used configuration of WP200 that uses an incorporated Nonin oximetry module in the sleep lab or in the home sleep environment.

Sleep DisordersSleep Apnea1 moreThe objective of this study is to determine if a non-invasive technique, using an innovative analysis of electrocardiogram (ECG) data, would allow for detection of respiratory events during sleep and discrimination between central and obstructive apnea. Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is the most common respiratory disturbance seen during sleep, with an estimated prevalence of 10 % in the population and is strongly associated with the development of cardiovascular disease. In patients with underlying cardiac disease, particularly in heart failure (HF), central respiratory events such as Cheyne-Stokes Respiration (CSR) are often seen during sleep. The presence of CSR is also associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Currently, the identification and classification of sleep related respiratory disturbances is performed during over-night sleep studies (polysomnography), which are labor-intensive, time-consuming, expensive and difficult for patients. Thus, the development of alternative techniques to assist in the identification of those events in the outpatient setting is of marked importance for widespread screening of sleep apnea.
