A Study of Wrist Actigraphy in Overweight and Obese Adults With Sleep Disorders

70 overweight or obese adults with sleep disorders will be recruited for this study, in which the investigators aim to compare wrist actigraphy with polysomnography (PSG) for sleep monitoring. It is to evaluate the applications of Jawbone Up2 with the sleep parameters derived from this actigraphy.

Covid19

COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the last coronavirus discovered, called SARS-CoV-2. Symptoms encountered in COVID-19 are: cough, breathing difficulties (dyspnea, chest pain, etc.), pyrexia, anosmia (loss of smell) and/or dysgeusia (loss of taste), but also ENT symptoms (rhinitis type, odynophagia), headaches, asthenia, muscle pain, confusion and diarrhea. Infection with SARS-CoV-2 can also be asymptomatic. COVID-19 can be passed from person to person by respiratory droplets expelled when a person speaks, coughs or sneezes. The currently estimated incubation period ranges from 1 to 14 days, and most often this is around 5 days. According to a literature review, there is strong evidence that COVID-19 has an impact on mental health (anxiety being the most common symptom) whether in the general population, healthcare workers or vulnerable populations. The objective of this project is to assess mental health and sleep disorders within two populations: elderly patients and nursing staff.

Case-control Study of Sleep Disorders in Children With Cystic Fibrosis

Our primary purpose is to compare the prevalence of sleep disorders in children aged 6 to 17 with cystic fibrosis versus controls with a Sleep disorder screening score, the SDSC. Our hypothesis is that patients aged 6 to 17 with cystic fibrosis have a higher prevalence of sleep disturbances than the general population of the same age group. Our secondary hypothesis is that these sleep disorders are mixed and that there are non-respiratory causes, sometimes modifiable by simple non-medical treatment and that's why our secondary purpose is to identify the responsible factors, in particular non-respiratory factors in the 2 groups and to compare them.

This will serve as the information source for a pediatric sleep database.

The goal for COPD patients in pulmonary rehabilitation programs is to improve the quality of life. COPD is known to be worse at night as are other respiratory problems such as CHF. Saturation is known to get worse nocturnally as well. Furthermore, these COPD rehabilitation patients tend to be older and increasing age is associated with an increase in the incidence of sleep disorders. We suspect that there is an increase in the incidence of sleep disorders in COPD patients. We plan to further study these patients using questionnaires. A preliminary study was done, but the results were not comparable to national statistics. We plan to repeat the study, only changing the questions to a format comparable to data from the National Sleep Foundation.

The purpose of this study is to assist training doctors about different diseases of the nervous system affecting sleep. Patients selected to participate in this study will have any of a variety of sleep disorders. They will undergo several tests including an overnight recording of brain activity, eye movement, leg movement, breathing, heart rate, and other measures. Results of these tests will be used to better understand diseases causing sleep disorders and may be used to develop better treatments for them.

Body Composition, Nutritional and Cardiovascular Status and Lifestyle Factors of Adults Who Are...

There is an objective lack of data on the body composition, nutritional status, cardiovascular status and lifestyle of adults on a plant-based diet (PBD). The aim in this cross-sectional study investigators will document the differences in the body composition, nutritional intake and general health status of healthy adults aged 18 to 80 years who are on plant-based diet of 0.5-10 years and to determine if their body composition status is associated to the duration of eating with PBD between the 3 groups: those that are 0.5-2 years (short-term), 2-5 years (medium-term) and 5-10 years (long-term) on PBD. This study will also include the monitoring of other factors of healthy and active lifestyle of PBD participants, namely the status of habitual and organized physical activity, the status of daily long-term seating, the status of stress and hygiene of sleep, socio-economic status and the motive(s)/reasons for starting PBD. Investigators will also record their maximum (lifetime) body weight, body weight upon entering the PBD lifestyle, and using data from participants, blood analysis to collect their basic biochemistry results, and data on current blood pressure status. The investigators hypothesis is that: (H1): There are no differences in nutritional status between people who are short- (0.5-2 years), the medium- (2-5 years) or the long-term (5-10 years) on PBD. (H2): At least 80% of the tested subjects have plasma lipid values and blood pressure within the reference values. (H3): There is difference in lipid profile and body composition between people who are short- and the medium but not between medium and long-term PBD.
