Eval EarlySense Bet Lowenstein Sleeplab
ObeseSleep Apnea4 moreThe study objective is to collect heart rate, respiration rate and motion data of patients admitted to sleep lab and to determine the accuracy level of the EarlySense system vs. the monitors used in sleep lab (e.g., Polysomnography, respiratory belts, ECG, etc..) . Data regarding sleep condition, scoring and quality of sleep and in and out of bed status, patient turns will also be collected and compared to data collected by EarlySense contactless monitor. Different patient population will be monitored including obese, morbidly obese, patients with or without obstructive/central apnea, patients with or without arrhythmia as well as healthy population who arrive to sleep lab for general evaluation will be monitored
Sleep Assessment in CML
Sleep DisorderChronic Myeloid LeukemiaPatients with CML report on fatigue, and many of them report on sleep disturbances. The investigators wish to objectively assess the patient's sleep using a sleep "wrist watch" (Actigraph) , and correlate data with their perception of sleep quality. A matched participants group will serve as control. the Control group is defined as participants not having CML or any other malignancy and without any known sleep disturbances.
Investigating the Sleeping Habits of Patients With Haemophilia
Sleep DisorderPsychological2 moreThis investigation aims to explore sleeping habits in patients with haemophilia. These patients often suffer from joint pain, which leads to restricted physical activity. Further, many of the patients suffer from psychological strains, such as depression. Both depression and restricted physical activity can result in sleeping disorders. Thus it is aimed to find out which factors and comorbidities do play a role within sleeping habits in patients with haemophilia.
Evaluation of the Links Between Sleep Disorders and the Risk of Suicide Attempt
Attempted SuicideSeveral studies have demonstrated an association between sleep disorders such as insomnia and nightmares to suicidal ideations and behaviors. Nevertheless, some of these studies are methodologically questionable especially in the exploration of sleep disorders. Furthermore, confounding factors such as depressive symptomatology are not controlled and the measurement of suicidal behavior has often been taken into account as a historical measure, not as a current event, which introduces uncertainties and a lack of precision regarding the temporality of the phenomena. Today, while the links between sleep disorders and suicidal risk are well known, we have a lack of information on the importance and the role of sleep disorders as a precipitating factor. Indeed, few studies have evaluated the temporal link between sleep disorders and suicidal acts. The objective of this study is to evaluate the links between acute and chronic sleep disorders and the risk of suicide attempt
Sleep in Psychiatric Inpatients
Sleep DisturbanceSleep Disorder3 moreDecades of research have shown that sleep disturbances are common among patients with a wide range of psychiatric disorders. Such reported sleep disturbances include disrupted sleep efficiency and continuity, sleep quality complaints, insomnia, and nightmares. While traditional models suggest that certain sleep alterations are specific for certain mental disorders, newer models assume a transdiagnostic or dimensional view of sleep disturbances in mental disorders. Findings of a recent meta-analysis support the transdiagnostic or dimensional association between sleep disorders and psychiatric conditions. Additionally, the period just prior to sleep has recently received increased clinical and research interest, with studies investigating cognitive activity and rumination prior to sleep. However, only few studies compare sleep in different psychiatric diagnoses and the characteristics of sleep in different mental disorders are still not understood well enough for concrete implications for clinical practice. This is especially true for the population of psychiatric inpatients. In this study, the outcome measures and study variables will be measured with standardised and validated questionnaires, structured clinical interview, and a commercially available Fitbit Charge 2 tracker. Participants will be recruited from the inpatient units of the Psychiatric University Hospital Zurich (PUK). Screening will be conducted by the applicant and master's students enrolled in the project, using electronic patient files at the hospital. The patients will be invited to the study by their treating physician or psychologist. Assessments will consist of one interview and filling out of questionnaires (with a 30- to 45-minute duration respectively). A sub-sample will wear fill out a sleep diary for seven consecutive nights as well as wear a Fitbit Charge 2 tracker, which they will return a week later. Each patient will receive participant reimbursement of 30 Swiss francs (CHF) for their participation in the study.
Sleep Disorders and the Onset and Progression of ALS
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis200 cases of ALS patients were collected to explore whether sleep disorders are related to earlier onset age, and whether sleep disorders accelerate the progress of ALS and shorten the survival time of ALS patients.
Hormonal and Metabolic Consequences of Sleep Disorders in Young Obese Patients
ObesitySleep DisordersThere is a well-documented relationship between short sleep duration and high body mass index (BMI). The mechanism linking short sleep duration and weight gain is unknown. Current studies in healthy young volunteers have shown that experimental sleep restriction is associated with dysregulation of the neuroendocrine control of appetite and with alterations in glucose metabolism. The goal of our study is to determine the metabolic and hormonal modifications induced by chronic sleep curtailment in obese adolescents and young adults and to observe if short sleep is a negative prognostic factor in their weight evolution.
Sleep Disorders in Patients With Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple SclerosisFatigue is a frequent and disabling symptom in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). The pathophysiology of this sign is not fully understood. Some data suggest that the fatigue is associated with sleep disorders. The aim of this study is to determine the polysomnographic parameters in MS patients with fatigue in comparison to MS patients without fatigue.
Sleep Disorders After TIPS
Sleep DisorderThe Purpose of a study to investigate the incidence of postoperative sleep disorders in patients undergoing transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt ,and to analyze the relationship between risk factors and prognosis of sleep disorders.
Nursing Activity and Quality of Hospitalized Patients' Sleep
Sleep DisordersCircadian RhythmThis study is to determine the impact of night shift nurse's activity on patients' sleeping patterns in medical services including individual, clinical and environmental factors. The patients will be questioned in order to create both a control group and a group with troubled sleeping patterns.
