Psychotherapy for Anxiety in Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism Spectrum DisordersAutism7 moreAnxiety disorders affect 40 to 50% of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), contributing to substantial distress and impairment. The goal of this study is to examine the effectiveness of a personalized type of psychotherapy against standard-care psychotherapy for addressing anxiety in youth with ASD.
Imagery-based CBT for Social Anxiety Disorder: Piloting a Treatment Augmentation Protocol
Social Anxiety DisorderThe purpose of this pilot study is to explore whether there is a differential impact of verbal versus imagery-based cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as a treatment augmentation strategy for individuals with social anxiety disorder (SAD). Clients who have not demonstrated clinically significant change following group CBT for SAD will receive four additional sessions of either verbal-based CBT or imagery-based CBT. We hypothesize that that individuals who receive imagery-based CBT will experience even stronger improvements and be more satisfied with their treatment than individuals who received traditional verbal-linguistic CBT.
Providing Tools for Effective Care and Treatment of Anxiety Disorders
Panic DisorderAgoraphobia2 morePROTECT-AD is a cognitive behavioral treatment study involving highly qualified psychotherapeutic centers at seven German universities. It is our goal to further investigate and optimize existing effective treatments of anxiety disorders. In order to achieve this, the investigators want to investigate the effect of extinction learning in an "intensified" psychological intervention on treatment outcome in adults and children with anxiety disorders. The intensified psychological intervention is characterized by a higher number of exposure trials over a short time period. In the control condition the exposure trials take place in a weekly interval, analog to standard care.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Anxiety Disorders in Adolescents With Autism
AutismAsperger's Syndrome5 moreDue to the considerable prevalence of anxiety in youth with autism spectrum disorders, this study seeks to establish the efficacy of a modified cognitive behavioral therapy protocol in 50 adolescents versus other available treatment options.
Brief Shame Intervention Study
ShameSocial Anxiety DisorderThe current project will develop and test a brief 2-session shame intervention in individuals diagnosed with social anxiety disorder (SAD). Using a non-concurrent multiple baseline design, the investigators will determine whether the brief shame intervention leads to reductions in trait self-reported shame and state shame in response to an in vivo stressor task. The investigators will also evaluate the effect of changes in shame on trait SAD symptoms.
Effects of Low-Level Laser Stimulation With and Without Fear Extinction Training
PhobiasClaustrophobia1 moreThere are two specific aims for this study. Aim 1 is to test whether low-level laser therapy (LLLT) can enhance the efficacy of fear extinction training in the modification of pathological fear. Aim 2 is to investigate the efficacy of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) as a stand-alone intervention for anxiety/phobias.
Building Closer Friendships in Social Anxiety Disorder
Social AnxietyThis study assesses whether a 4-week computerized intervention can be used to decrease fear of intimacy, and loneliness and improve perceived social support in people with Social Anxiety Disorder.
Stepped-Care Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment for Youth With ASD and Anxiety
Cognitive Behavioral TherapyAutism Spectrum Disorder5 moreThis study implements a parent-led, flexible, individually-tailored cognitive-behavioral intervention for children with ASD and anxiety.
Adjunctive Quetiapine in the Treatment of Refractory Social Anxiety Disorder in Adults
Social Anxiety DisorderThis is a 16-week research study in which participants suffering from Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) will receive Sertraline (a medication FDA approved for the treatment of SAD) for the first 8 weeks. If a participant remains symptomatic, he/she will enter the second phase of the study in which he/she continues taking Sertraline but also randomly receives either Seroquel or placebo in conjunction with Sertraline for additional 8 weeks. The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of adjunctive Seroquel in treating SAD.
Computerized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Childhood Anxiety in Community Health Centers
Generalized Anxiety DisorderSocial Phobia1 moreThis study will examine the efficacy of a computerized cognitive behavioral therapy (CCBT) program for children with anxiety disorders in community health centers. The first phase of the study will offer insight into the feasibility of providing this intervention in community health centers, while the second phase will compare CCBT to treatment as usual.
