There are 3 phases of this project. First phase is to study the satisfaction in healthy children aged 10-15 years old when they are playing our computer games. The sample size of this phase was 10. In addition, we will ask the occupational therapist to play and comment our game for further development.

Intensive Unimanual (CIMT) and Bimanual Training (HABIT) in Children With Hemiplegia

A randomized control trial examining the relationship between changes in hand function and brain plasticity following intensive therapy. Two treatment approaches are used: constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT) or Hand-Arm Bimanual Intensive Therapy (HABIT). The protocols have been developed at TC Columbia University to be child friendly and draw upon our extensive experience with constraint-induced movement therapy in children with cerebral palsy. Our center has been providing interventions camps for children with cerebral palsy since 1998. The interventions are performed in a 15 day day-camp setting with several children and at least one interventionist per child. The aim of the intervention is to improve the use of the affected hand and quality of overall movement in a fun, social setting. PARTICIPATION IS FREE. Postoperative Pain in Children With Cerebral Palsy After Pelvic and Femoral Osteotomies

This study is a comparison of postoperative pain in children with cerebral palsy after surgery on the hip or femur. One group is treated with p.o. (by mouth) or intravenous (i.v.) analgesia, and the other group is treated with local infiltration analgesia with Naropine. Pain is measured with r-FLACC, a pain-score validated for children with cerebral palsy.

The protocols have been developed at Columbia University to be child friendly and draws upon our experience since 1997 with constraint-induced movement therapy in children with cerebral palsy. The investigators will test the hypothesis that bimanual training (HABIT) will result in improved hand function in children with hemiplegia.

Self-produced locomotion often is limited in children with cerebral palsy and other conditions that cause severe motor impairments. As a result, these children may be at risk for secondary impairments in spatial cognition, communication, social development, and other domains influenced by independent mobility. To compensate, power mobility has increasingly been advocated for young children with severe motor impairments. The study hypotheses were: Children with severe disabilities that prevent independent locomotion who learn to use power mobility devices when they are 14- to 30-months-of-age will have greater communication, social, and cognitive development over a 12-month period, and will demonstrate more competent coping skills than children with the same characteristics who do not use power mobility. Parents of children who use power mobility will view it as a positive influence on their children's lives, and will perceive their children's development to be more mature than the parents of children who do not use power mobility will perceive their children's development.

Therapeutic Potential of Myofascial Structural Integration in Children With Cerebral Palsy

Spastic Cerebral Palsy

The investigators hypothesize that children with spastic cerebral palsy will show greater improvements in gross motor function, associated developmental skills and growth after the 3 months of myofascial structural integration treatment, a form of deep massage, than they showed after a 3- or 6-month pre-treatment waiting period. The investigators further hypothesize that children with spastic CP will maintain their gains in gross motor function for ≥ 3 months after completion of MSI treatment.
