The incidence of central auditory dysfunction in war fighters who are exposed to high-explosive blasts while serving in combat have not been clearly determined. The objectives of this study are to determine whether central auditory processing (CAP) disorders are associated with exposure to high-explosive blasts. This study will also examine the incidence, magnitude and timing of spontaneous recovery of CAP function from blast exposure. The information provided by this study will help guide clinicians in both the military and VA health care systems regarding the likelihood of central auditory processing disorders in soldiers returning from deployment and suggest some clinical rehabilitative strategies for the treatment of these patients with CAP deficits.

Hereditary Deficits in Auditory Processing Leading to Language Impairment

Some children with certain language disorders may not properly process the sounds they hear, resulting in language impairments. The purpose of this study is to determine if deficits in auditory temporal processing the way the brain analyzes the timing and patterns of sounds are an inherited trait. Families with auditory temporal processing deficits are sought in order to identify the genes responsible for auditory temporal processing deficits. Children and adults with a diagnosis or history of language impairment in the family and their family members both affected and non-affected are eligible for this two-part study. In Part 1, participants undergo a series of language tests and listening tests to measure various characteristics of how they perceive sound. In Part 2, they are interviewed about language disorders, learning disabilities, and other medical problems of family members. This information is used to construct a pedigree (family tree diagram) showing the pattern of inheritance of family traits. Study subjects whose pedigree indicates that language disorders may be hereditary in their family will provide either a small blood sample (1 to 2 tablespoons) or a tissue specimen obtained from a cheek swab (rubbing the inside of the cheek with a small brush or cotton swabs). The sample will be used to isolate DNA for genetic analysis.

Children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) have many linguistic difficulties in syntax, lexicon, morphology and phonology. Frequently, they also present co-occurrent (or comorbidities) impairments which further impaired school learning. Thus, they have poor academic outcomes and many of these children have been maintained at least one time in a classroom, sometime more. The purpose of this project is to determine which modalities of speech and language therapy are the more efficient on academic outcomes of children with DLD. The main modalities that will be studied are the duration of speech and language intervention, the age at which begins the intervention and the intensity (number of intervention sessions per week).

This study aimed to provide the validity and reliability of the Indonesian ASQ-3 questionnaires as a screening tool for developmentally delayed children aged less than one year old. This study was divided into 2 phases. The first phase (April-June 2018) included the transcultural adaptation of the ASQ-3 questionnaires for 2 to 12 months age groups from English to Indonesian. The second phase (July- September 2018) included a cross-sectional study of Indonesian ASQ-3 questionnaires for parents/caregivers of children aged 1-12 months, with 35 children in each age group by cluster sampling methods, in 2 district areas in East Jakarta.

This study aimed to evaluate the concurrent validity information of the 24-, 30-, and 36-month Indonesian ASQ-3 with the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development 3rd Edition (BSID-III) in Indonesian children. Children living in Tanah Tinggi subdistrict, Central Jakarta, were recruited conveniently from November to December 2019. Children within the 24-, 30-, or 36-month age group were assessed for Indonesian ASQ-3 concurrently with BSID-III as the reference standard according to their age groups. Screening test accuracy was measured in sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values for both overall dan specific domains.
