Chronic Pain Due to TraumaSpinal Cord InjuriesStudy of the effect of gabapentin used as a preemptive to the emergence and development chronic neuropathic pain in patients after spinal cord trauma
Body Weight Support in Spinal Cord Injury
Spinal Cord InjuryThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of body weight-supported treadmill (BWST) training on static balance impairment in adults with incomplete spinal cord injury (SCI) in chronic stage
Cethrin in Acute Cervical Spinal Cord Injury
Spinal Cord InjuryThis is a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase IIb/III study designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Cethrin as a treatment for acute cervical spinal cord injury. During the trial, high and low doses of Cethrin will be compared with placebo.
Clinical Trial of Remote Preconditioning in Patients Undergoing Cervical Decompression Surgery
Cervical Compression MyelopathyIschemia2 moreThe purpose of this study is to assess whether a large clinical trial testing the effect of RIPC on neurologic outcome in patients undergoing elective cervical decompression surge is warranted.
Self-Management to Prevent Ulcers in Veterans With SCI (Spinal Cord Injury)
Pressure UlcersSpinal Cord InjuriesPressure ulcers (PrUs) are the most frequent significant medical complication after spinal cord injury (SCI). PrU prevalence, morbidity, mortality, and recurrence rates are high, and most persons with SCI will have at least one serious PrU during their lifetime. VA costs of treating the almost 3,500 unique Veterans with SCI and a severe ulcer at an SCI Center in FY10 was just under $400 million.
Effect of Vibration Therapy on Bone in Persons With Sub-acute Spinal Cord Injury
Spinal Cord InjuriesThe purpose of this research study is to determine the effect of mechanical vibrations on bones of persons with spinal cord injury.
BIONs, for Improved Tissue Health and Pressure Sore Prevention
Pressure UlcersSpinal Cord InjuryThe purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of an implanted electrical stimulation system incorporating BION microstimulators for long term use to prevent tissue breakdown in high risk patients.
Colonizing Neurogenic Bladders With Benign Flora
Spinal Cord InjuryUrinary Tract InfectionThe purpose of the research is to determine whether we can get harmless bacteria to live in the bladders of persons with spinal cord injury who practice intermittent bladder catheterization. We will also look at whether having the harmless bacteria in the bladder prevents urinary tract infections from occurring.
Prazosin Vibrostimulation Autonomic Dysreflexia and Spinal Cord Injury Study
Autonomic DysreflexiaSexuality is a high rehabilitative priority for persons following a spinal cord injury (SCI). Sexual acts can lead to autonomic dysreflexia (AD), dangerous consequences such as a sudden increase in blood pressure, severe headache, sweating above the level of the lesion and low heart rate to name a few. Ejaculation in men can provoke these significant symptoms and therefore men and women may refrain from a sexual life and biological parenthood. Adalat is the most common antihypertensive used in fertility clinics to reduce the incidence of AD. It dramatically reduces blood pressure and, therefore, results in side effects such as dizziness, fatigue and weakness. The investigators hypothesize that Minipress® (prazosin HCL), a blood pressure medication, which has a slower and less abrupt suppressive effect on blood pressure, would be a safe, effective and more appropriate medication for use in the outpatient sperm retrieval clinic and potentially for private use.
The Biophysical Impact of Transcutaneous Spinal Cord Stimulation Within a Single Session
Spinal Cord InjuriesTo determine the biophysical impact of biophysical Impact of Transcutaneous Spinal Cord Stimulation (TSCS) within a single session. We hypothesize that subjects will demonstrate increased volitional muscle strength with TSCS. This will be assessed by isokinetic strength testing of post-injury dominant-side knee extension. Subjects will be tested in both Transcutaneous Spinal Cord Stimulation and sham conditions.
