Efficacy and Safety of Zoledronic Acid in Acute Spinal Cord Injury: Prevention of Bone Loss

Bone Loss

This is a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial of zoledronic acid, 5mg, to be administered intravenously to people who have suffered an acute spinal cord fracture. The goal is to evaluate if zoledronic acid can prevent the acute bone loss seen in this population. Outcome measures will include bone density determinations over a one year period.

Incomplete Cervical SCI Without Instability

A multicenter, international, prospective, observational case series patient cohort with incomplete cervical SCI without instability will be enrolled to obtain information and data that could inform the feasibility of administering a set of additional core and optional outcome assessments in cervical SCI patients to capture the aspects of neurologic impairment. Baseline, intraoperative, and postoperative characteristics, including demographics, injury details, treatment details, neurological assessments, gait and balance assessments and upper extremity assessments, will be recorded for adult patients.

Proprioception Testing in Persons With Sensorimotor Impairment

In this study, an FDA-cleared device and type of treatment called "AMES," which stands for Assisted Movement with Enhanced Sensation, will be used to determine whether sensation in the upper limb of individuals with incomplete spinal cord injuries, acquired brain injury, or stroke improves along with movement through treatment. We hypothesize that measureable improvement in the sensation of the upper limb will precede improvement in functional movement.

This research examines the variables that affect a patient's choice to enroll in, discontinue participation in, or resume participation in a clinical trial for spinal cord injury. It will also try to analyze data from the perspective of different demographic groups to check for recurring trends which might yield insights for the sake of future spinal cord injury research.

Neurogenic paraosteoarthropathies are peri-articular bone formations that may occur as a result of central neurological injury. Their occurrence limits reeducation and recovery capacities. Neurogenic paraosteoarthropathies sometimes cause complications (pain, joint stiffness, vascular and nerve compression, pressure sores) in patients already suffering from severe neurological sequelae affecting functional prognosis. A lot of clinical research work has been carried out within Dr Salga team. Subsequently, a collaboration was born with fundamental research teams (Pr Levesque, Pr Le Bousse Kerdilès, Pr Banzet, Pr Genêt) allowing translational work between humans and animals. The clinical application of recent research findings now makes it possible to launch the very first prospective study on neurogenic paraosteoarthropathies.

The Exopulse Mollii Suit Study - a Database for Routine Follow-up of Clinical Outcomes

The objective is to explore the potential short and long-term impact of the Exopulse Mollii Suit on subjects with CP, MS, stroke, SCI or other neurological disorders which may cause such types of symptoms, and to identify high responders among the sub-categories of the diagnoses. The primary endpoint will be improvement on the Berg/Pediatric Balance Scale (BBS) as a measurement of balance and risk of falls.
