The effect of airway management on vomiting after strabismus surgery is unknown. The purpose of this study is to find out whether the use of different airway devices, such as LMA, which is a special mask placed in the throat or Endotracheal tube (ET tube), which is a soft tube placed in the wind pipe, affects the incidence of vomiting after surgery. Two hundred six children between the ages of 2 and 12 years are expected to take part in this study.

To identify vision-screening tests that can accurately predict those three- and four-year old preschoolers who would benefit from a comprehensive vision examination because of signs of amblyopia, strabismus, and/or significant refractive error.

This study evaluates the association between the depth of general anesthesia and the occurrence of emergence agitation (EA). The investigators hypothesized that optimal level of anesthetic depth could decrease the incidence of EA in children undergoing strabismus surgery compared to the deep level of anesthetic depth.

The purpose of this study is to determine if local anesthetic, either a subtenons injection (an injection just beneath the surface tissue of the eye) or a topical ophthalmic gel (applied directly on the surface of the eye) given at the end of strabismus surgery reduces postoperative pain. Some surgeons routinely use either the subtenon and/or topical anesthetic for pain at the end of strabismus surgery.

The occurrence of emergence agitation (EA) in pediatric patients who have received sevoflurane anesthesia is a common postoperative problem. Among various strategies for reducing the incidence and severity of EA, the use of pharmacological agents at the end of anesthesia is thought to be the most convenient and easily applicable method in clinical situation. The one of typical agents that can be administered in this way is propofol. Previous studies demonstrated that the use of propofol 1mg/kg at the end of anesthesia could reduce the incidence of EA with low incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting. However, it was also demonstrated that the use of propofol 1mg/kg at the end of anesthesia could delay the emergence time. The purpose of this study is to compare the preventive effect on EA and the emergence time between propofol 1mg/kg and propofol 0.5mg/kg administered at the end of sevoflurane anesthesia.

The purpose of this project is to compare the performance of the Pediatric Vision Scanner (PVS) with the Gold Standard Examination to determine the effectiveness of the PVS at detecting amblyopia and strabismus. All tests and observations will be done at a single visit over the course of approximately 30 minutes.

Develop and evaluate a new smartphone based app to screen for and measure eye misalignment (strabismus). The investigators will validate the app against simulated strabismus of known magnitude and common clinical tests. They will evaluate the app as a screening tool in high risk populations, to determine the sensitivity and specificity. They hypothesize that the app can measure to within 2 units (prism diopters) of the ground truth, and that it will be correlated with gold standard tests.

Oculocardiac reflex (OCR) is usually happening in pediatric strabismus surgery and observed just when the surgent pulls the ocular muscles. The reflex is one of the trigemino-vagal reflexes, and causes bradycardia, arrhythmia, and even cardiac arrest during eye surgery. Premedication for relaxation with drugs like hydroxyzine dihydrochloride or midazolam before surgery of the pediatric population is often used in Turkey, although it is not recommended in foreign countries. Some recent studies showed that when midazolam and hydroxyzine dihydrochloride used together not only, they lessen agitation before surgery but also they prevent emergence agitation. The primary aim of this prospective observational study is to show the effect of hydroxyzine dihydrochloride on preventing the pediatric patient from Oculocardiac reflex related to strabismus surgery.

After 28 years of development, the binocular birefringence screener ("blinq," "Rebion") was commercially released. It need to be validated with AAPOS (American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus) criteria in part because the next Uniform Standards document is pending. Adult and children pediatric and strabismus patients were screened with blinq and "2WIN" photoscreener with "CR" corneal reflex alignment test and then compared to confirmatory exam with age-appropriate determination of binocular status.
