Bortezomib With or Without Irinotecan in Treating Patients With Cancer of the Gastroesophageal Junction...

Adenocarcinoma of the Gastroesophageal JunctionDiffuse Adenocarcinoma of the Stomach6 more

This phase II trial is studying how well bortezomib with or without irinotecan works in treating patients with gastroesophageal junction or stomach cancer that can not be removed by surgery. Bortezomib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking the enzymes necessary for tumor cell growth. Drugs used in chemotherapy such as irinotecan use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining bortezomib with irinotecan may kill more tumor cells.

Irinotecan and Cisplatin in Treating Patients Who Are Undergoing Surgery For Locally Advanced Cancer...

Gastric AdenocarcinomaStage II Gastric Cancer2 more

This phase II trial is studying how well giving irinotecan together with cisplatin works in treating patients who are undergoing surgical resection for locally advanced cancer of the stomach or gastroesophageal junction. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as irinotecan and cisplatin, work in different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one chemotherapy drug and giving them before surgery may shrink the tumor so that it can be removed during surgery.

Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy After Surgery in Treating Patients With Stomach or Esophageal...

Esophageal CancerGastric Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. Combining chemotherapy with radiation therapy after surgery may kill any remaining tumor cells following surgery. It is not yet known which chemotherapy and radiation therapy regimen is more effective in treating stomach or esophageal cancer. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare two different chemotherapy and radiation therapy regimens in treating patients who have undergone surgery for stomach or esophageal cancer.

Vaccine Therapy Plus Chemotherapy in Treating Patients With Metastatic or Locally Recurrent Stomach...

Esophageal CancerGastric Cancer

RATIONALE: Vaccines may make the body build an immune response to kill tumor cells. Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining vaccine therapy with chemotherapy may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combining vaccine therapy and chemotherapy in treating patients who have metastatic or locally recurrent stomach cancer or esophageal cancer.

Combination Chemotherapy Plus Interferon Alfa Followed by Filgrastim in Treating Patients With Gastrointestinal...

Extrahepatic Bile Duct CancerGastric Cancer4 more

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Interferon alfa may interfere with the growth of cancer cells. Colony-stimulating factors such as filgrastim may increase the number of immune cells found in bone marrow or peripheral blood and may help a person recover from the side effects of chemotherapy. Combining chemotherapy with interferon alfa may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combining chemotherapy and interferon alfa followed by filgrastim in treating patients who have gastrointestinal tract cancer.

Esophageal CancerGastric Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy in treating patients who have metastatic or recurrent cancer of the esophagus.

Docetaxel and Irinotecan in Treating Patients With Advanced Cancer of the Esophagus or Stomach

Esophageal CancerGastric Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combining docetaxel and irinotecan in treating patients who have advanced cancer of the esophagus or stomach.

Oxaliplatin Plus Irinotecan in Treating Patients With Metastatic Gastrointestinal Cancer

Anal CancerColorectal Cancer8 more

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of oxaliplatin plus irinotecan in treating patients with previously treated metastatic gastrointestinal cancer that has not responded to previous treatment.
