Posttraumatic Stress DisorderThis randomized controlled exploratory phase II trial will test the hypothesis that oral dronabinol improves nightmares (primary outcome) and other PTSD symptoms (secondary outcomes) to a greater extent than placebo over a ten week intervention phase in a parallel group design.
Photo-supported Conversations About Well-being
Stress DisorderThe aim is to to investigate photo-supported conversations about well-being by the intervention Be WellTM in addition to care as usual within primary care, compared to a control group, for patients with stress-related diagnosis. The intention is to examine the outcomes measures regarding exhaustion, balance of activities in everyday life, client satisfaction, depression and anxiety quality of life, sense of coherence and work ability. The study has been approved by the Regional Ethical Review Board. The project has a quasi-experimental design using mixed methods. A total of 70 patients (35 to the intervention group and 35 to the control group) will be included. Inclusion criteria are patients with stress-related disorder in primary care, aged 20-67 years, who are on sick leave or risk being on sick leave. Exclusion criteria are severe somatic disorders, neuropsychiatric diagnosis, psychosis and language or cognitive problems that implies difficulties to answer questionnaires. After informed consent, the intervention group receive, in addition to care as usual, photo-supported conversations about well-being, that is conducted over time for increased training. The intervention involves 12 sessions takes part during 12-15weeks. With cell phones the patients photograph what they relate to well-being in everyday life. The photos are enlarged and used for reflecting conversations with their therapist. Before and after intervention, and 6 months after intervention the patient meets a project assistant and respond questionnaires as well as qualitative interviews. The control group has the same measure points. Outcome measures are compared with a control group who receive care as usual in primary care. Data will be collected by questionnaires for exhaustion, balance of activities in everyday life, client satisfaction, depression and anxiety, quality of life, sense of coherence and work ability. Qualitative data from interviews about life situation and treatment experiences will also be analyzed. An additional aim is to investigate how therapists experience performing a health promoting intervention, collected from qualitative interviews. The project is involving the Kronoberg County Council and Jönköping County Council. Gatekeepers will recruit patients and occupational therapists will perform the intervention. The research team comprise of researchers from Kronoberg County Council, Linnaeus University, Jönköping University and University of Gothenburg.
Brief Behavioral Treatment for Insomnia in Veterans With Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
Posttraumatic Stress DisorderInsomnia DisorderThis study will investigate treatments for insomnia in Veterans who have posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The purpose of this study is to compare a brief behavioral treatment for insomnia (BBTI) to a treatment that helps promote relaxation (progressive muscle relaxation training or PMRT). Intensiv Inpatient Trauma Treatment. A Pilotstudy.
Post Traumatic Stress DisorderAim of the study: Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric illness that can develop after having experienced traumatic, often life treathening, events. The symptoms often leads to significant subjective suffering, and may limit vocational and social functioning. Intensive trauma treatment with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Prolonged Exposure (PE) of patients with PTSD has not previously been conducted in an inpatient setting in Norway. In this study we foremost seek to examine if this combined intervention, given at a five day inpatient unit, is suitable to a norwegian PTSD population and clinical setting. We will do this by systematically gathering information about how many drop out of the treatment program, and if so, at what stage of the program. We will also ask the patients to complete a short questionnaire about how they viewed the treatment program overall, and the separate parts of the program. We also wish to examine how the patients experienced the intervention, and in what way it contributet to their possible improvemen,t through a qualitative interview. We will also use well established clinical self report questionnaires to investigate if the patients who participate in the treatment program will experience an improvement of their PTSD symptoms and improved functioning, and examine if this possible improvement lasts two and six months post treament. Method: This is a pilotstudy where a total of twelve patients with PTSD will be recruited from the Nydalen outpatient department, Oslo University Hospital. The patients have to satisfy the studies inclusion criteria, including having experienced at least two traumatic experiences, and had at least one previous psyhotherapeutic treament. The patients will be examined with validated self report questionnaires before and after the intervention, as well as after two and six months post treatment. Six patients will be invited to participate in a qualitative interview focusing on their experience of the intervention. The Intervention: Treatment program monday to friday with daily PE and EMDR sessions, physical activity between sessions, in vivo exposure treament and psychoeducational groups. Daily rotation of both EMDR and PE therapists. Multidisiplinary team attached to each patient. Significance of the study: Intensive inpatient trauma treatment with EMDR and PE have not previously been done in Norway. It has neither, as far as we know, been conducted any qualitative studies of this intensive combined treatment method internationally. The project wish to contribute to change trauma treatment in our hospital from a stabilisation focus to a focus on active trauma processing and treatment, to increase our staffs and therapists competency in trauma treatment, and to further the national and international body of knowledge about how patients with PTSD best can experience functional and symptomatic improvement.

Art Therapy qEEG Study for Service Members With a Traumatic Brain Injury and Posttraumatic Stress...
Post-Traumatic HeadachePTSD19 moreService members and/or recently separated veterans with post traumatic stress symptoms and mild traumatic brain injury may participate in 8 sessions including 2 sessions including interviews and questionnaires as well as 6 sessions of art therapy. In the art therapy, participants will be provided with a blank paper mache mask template and invited to alter the mask however they wish using a variety of art materials. The therapist will use the art-making process and culminating product to aid in self-reflection, reframe negative thoughts and feelings, and work through traumatic content. Prior to the session start participants will get set up with a mobile qEEG (worn like a hat and backpack). The qEEG will measure brain activity in a non-invasive way throughout the art therapy session to improve understanding of brain activity during the art therapy process.
