Mobile Self-Tracking
SchizophreniaBipolar Disorder2 moreSerious mental illnesses require years of monitoring and adjustments in treatment. Stress, substance abuse or reduced medication adherence cause rapid worsening of symptoms, with consequences that include job loss, homelessness, suicide, incarceration, and hospitalization. Treatment visits can be infrequent. Illness exacerbations usually occur with no clinician awareness, leaving little opportunity to make treatment adjustments. Tools are needed that quickly detect illness worsening. At least two thirds of Veterans with serious mental illness use a smart phone. These phones generate data that characterize sociability, activity and sleep. Changes in these are warning signs for relapse. Members of this project developed an app that monitors and transmits these mobile data. This project studies passive mobile sensing that allows Veterans to self-track their activities, sociability and sleep; and studies whether this can be used to track symptoms. The project intends to produce a mobile platform that monitors the clinical status of patients, identifies risk for relapse, and allows early intervention.
Effect of Sublingual Formulation of Dexmedetomidine HCl (BXCL501) - Alcohol Interaction Study
Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD)Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)The overall objective of the proposed study is to determine if Dexmedetomidine HCl (BXCL501) is safe for treatment of alcohol use disorder (AUD) with comorbid posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and also shows potential signals of efficacy thereby supporting the conduct of later phase clinical trials. Safety endpoints will be compared following an alcohol challenge without and concurrent with BXCL501 treatment.
Reconsolidation Blockade of Intrusive Trauma- and Cocaine-related Memories

Using Mobile Technology to Address the Trauma Mental Health Treatment Gap
Post Traumatic Stress DisorderBounceBack Now (BBN) is a self-help, trauma-focused mental health mobile app with automated assessment with treatment guidance and in-app evidence-based treatment support for depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), sleep difficulties, and anxiety. BBN contains many of the necessary components to promote self-management of these conditions. We will evaluate the apps feasibility and acceptability among underserved patients (e.g., African Americans and patient with lower socioeconomic status) with trauma histories in an integrated primary care (IPC) setting. There are two specific aims: 1) to develop educational materials for patients and behavioral health providers for BBN in IPC, and 2) to conduct a pilot trial of BBN for patients with trauma histories in an IPC setting. To achieve Aim 1, we will conduct focus groups with behavioral health providers and patients to obtain feedback about BBN and training materials. For Aim 2, a feasibility study with 15 patients will be conducted to identify and address any procedural issues and to refine the protocol before conducting the full-scale study.
Sustaining Remission From PTSD Using Tuned Vibroacoustic Stimulation (TVS) Following MDMA-Assisted...
Stress DisordersPost-TraumaticThe purpose of this research is to examine a wearable device called Apollo that emits gentle vibrations found to benefit mood, energy, and focus. We want to understand how it affects outcomes related to MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for PTSD including depression, anxiety and emotion regulation. This study will test whether regular use of the Apollo wearable improves rates of sustained symptom remission in PTSD following MDMA-assisted psychotherapy over the course of two years
Non-invasive Nerve Stimulation for PTSD and Sleep
Post Traumatic Stress DisorderTraumatic Brain InjuryIn this study, our objective is to determine the effect of two different nerve stimulation types in changing sleep architecture.
A Feasibility Study of Internet Delivered Prolonged Exposure
Post Traumatic Stress DisorderThe primary objective with this study is to investigate the feasibility and acceptability of ten weeks of internet delivered prolonged exposure delivered through a digital platform with therapist support. The secondary objective is to investigate preliminary effects of internet delivered prolonged exposure in terms of reducing symptoms of post-traumatic stress, depression and increase quality of life.
NeuroGlove PTSD Study
PTSDPost Traumatic Stress DisorderThis is a prospective, home-based, interventional clinical study in which 6 subjects will be enrolled. Six (6) subjects who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder will receive treatment using the NeuroGlove.
Adaptation and Evaluation of the KEEP Model
DepressionAnxiety3 moreThis study capitalizes on an opportunity to formally evaluate local adaptations of "Keeping Foster and Kinship Parents Supported and Trained" (KEEP), an evidence-based foster parent intervention, to reduce mental health disparities among child welfare-involved youth and improve care quality and long-term outcomes for Native, Hispanic/Latino, Black/African American, and sexual and gender minority youth. The knowledge gained from the study will impact all current and future large-scale implementations of KEEP and will bolster our scientific understanding the impact of KEEP on youth mental health outcomes.
