Prazosin Treatment for Combat Trauma PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) Nightmares and Sleep...
Stress DisorderPost-TraumaticThe purpose of this study is to determine whether prazosin will reduce the incidence of nightmares, sleep disturbance, and overall symptoms in combat trauma-exposed individuals with PTSD.
SSRI Administration to Reduce Acute Stress Disorder Symptoms and Prevent Depression and PTSD in...
Anxiety DisorderThe purpose of this study is to examine the efficacy of escitalopram compared to placebo in reducing Acute Stress Disorder (ASD) symptoms and in preventing the emergence of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in patients with medical trauma who are at risk for the development of PTSD based on the presence of ASD symptoms.
Body-Oriented Therapy for Sexual Abuse Recovery
Child AbuseSexual2 moreThe purpose of this study is to examine and compare the effects of two body therapy approaches in women who have experienced child sexual abuse.
Treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in Sexually Abused Children
Stress DisordersPost-TraumaticThe purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of two psychological therapies used to treat PTSD in children who have recently been sexually abused: Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) vs Child Centered Therapy (CCT). Child sexual abuse is a common experience that has serious mental health consequences, including the development of PTSD and other abuse-related problems. All children will be assigned randomly (like tossing a coin) to receive either SAS-CBT or NST at each of two sites. In addition, the parents and the child will receive individual therapy for 12 weeks. The child will be monitored to evaluate his/her response to therapy. Assessments will take place before and just following treatment, and then 6 and 12 months post-treatment. A child may be eligible for this study if he/she: Has been sexually abused, is suffering from PTSD as a result of the abuse, and is 8 to 14 years old.
An Online CBT, Mindfulness Meditation & Yoga (CBT-MY) Intervention for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder...
Posttraumatic Stress DisordersPTSDPost-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a chronic, debilitating condition, is a growing public health concern as the Canadian population has the highest PTSD prevalence worldwide (9.2%; 3.7 million people). PTSD is linked with other comorbid mental health disorders (e.g., depression) and increased risk of chronic disease (e.g., cardiovascular disease, obesity) which presents challenges as far as selection of the appropriate treatment approach. Adjunctive treatment approaches for PTSD that include somatic-sensory body awareness (e.g., mindfulness, yoga) have been shown to be viable treatment options to reduce stress-related symptoms and enhance emotion regulation. Online treatment delivery for mental health disorders demonstrate similar reductions in self-reported symptoms as face-to-face methods and emphasize accessibility, reduced costs, and enhanced appeal to certain demographic groups. A target population at risk of untreated PTSD symptoms that may benefit from an online treatment is young adults, 18-34 yrs., who have experienced childhood trauma. No known clinical trial (CT) has addressed the effectiveness of a brief (8-week) online trauma-informed yoga intervention using both self-report and objective psychophysiology measures. The purpose of this study is to evaluate changes in self-reported PTSD symptoms and objectively measured biomarkers of autonomic regulation via pupil dilation and heart-rate-variability (HRV) following an 8-week single-arm experimental design. It is hypothesized that clinically significant reductions of: 1) PTSD total symptom severity by 10% and 2) significant reductions in pupil dilation at post-intervention and; 3) significant increases in HRV at post-intervention. This is the first study to examine objective markers of autonomic regulation among an at-risk population using multiple novel technologies (e.g., Eye Tracking Glasses, HRV) and comparing two theoretically-linked measures (e.g., HRV, Pupillometry). Comparisons of psychophysiology data with a cross-sectional convenience sample with no history of clinical PTSD or mental health conditions were made.
Clinical Trial for Alcohol Use Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)Addiction1 moreThis is a randomized controlled Phase II clinical trial designed to evaluate the effects of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) in reducing Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) severity and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptomatology among individuals with current AUD and PTSD.
A Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Resiliency Program for Critical Care Nurses
Burn-Out SyndromeWork-Related Stress DisorderDeveloped over 10 years ago, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) synergistically combines mindfulness training and cognitive behavioral therapy and can increase resiliency. In this study, the investigators proposed two aims: Aim #1: To adapt and optimize a MBCT resiliency program specifically for ICU nurses. For this aim, the investigators will engage multiple stakeholder groups to assist the protocol adaptation. Aim # 2: To conduct a pilot clinical trial to determine acceptability of the MBCT resiliency program and the control intervention. In this aim, the investigators will also identify the most feasible randomization level to minimize contamination between the control and intervention groups. Collectively, this proposal will pave the way for a properly designed large multi-center trial of a MBCT resiliency program (MBCT-ICU) to determine its ability to decrease BOS symptoms; and allow nurses to more effectively care for patients in the challenging ICU environment.
Remote Study of NightWare for PTSD With Nightmares
PostTraumatic Stress DisorderSleep Disorder7 moreThis study will provide measures of safety and efficacy of the NightWare digital therapeutic system (iPhone + Apple watch + proprietary application) for the treatment of nightmare disorder associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)-related sleep disturbance and the impact of improved sleep with the NightWare digital therapeutic system. The investigators hypothesize that the NightWare digital therapeutic system will significantly improve sleep quality in participants with PTSD-Related nightmares and poor sleep quality.
A Comparison of CPT Versus ART Versus WL
Posttraumatic Stress DisorderThe purpose of this research study is to compare the effectiveness of two treatments for the symptoms of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) with a no therapy, wait-list control condition. The two treatments are Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) as compared to Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). Both have been found to be effective with veterans and civilians in prior studies but they have never been compared to one another. Participants will be 280 males and females ages 18 and older who meet criteria for PTSD (or subthreshold PTSD). PTSD is a condition that can occur after a trauma experience such as combat, sexual abuse, physical abuse, or natural disasters.
Enhancement of PTSD Treatment With Computerized Executive Function Training
Posttraumatic Stress DisorderThis study focuses on helping Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) benefit fully from therapy by first enhancing their thinking abilities. PTSD has been associated with thinking problems, including difficulty planning/organizing, thinking flexibly, and inhibiting distracting emotional information. There is some evidence that computerized training programs are helpful for improving thinking. Therefore, this study tests whether computerized cognitive training will in fact improve individuals' thinking abilities and if this will in turn improve PTSD treatment outcomes and lead to more individuals completing treatment and showing greater improvements in emotional symptoms and quality of life than standard therapy (when paired with a word training condition).
