Mindfulness Training in Military Spouses
Psychological StressThis project aims to contextualize the delivery of mindfulness training for military spouses and evaluate its effectiveness on measures of executive functions and psychological well-being.
Mind and Body:A Clinical Trial Evaluation of a Smartphone App-based Mindfulness Intervention
Psychological StressPsychological Distress1 moreThis study evaluates the use of a mobile-app delivered mindfulness-based intervention for supporting psychosocial resilience in aging patients undergoing rehabilitation treatment. Half of the patients will receive the mobile-app, while the other half will receive the app 6 months later.
A Podcast Mind-Body Program for Military Caregiver
StressPsychologicalThe purpose of this pilot study is to test the efficacy, feasibility, and acceptability of a brief, online, mind-body wellness program to reduce stress and promote resilience in military caregivers.
Online Mindfulness Program for Stress Management
StressPsychological2 moreThis is a prospective parallel non-blinded randomized study with two arms, an intervention group and an active control group. Sixty healthy, but stressed nurses will be randomly assigned to either participate in a 6-week internet-based mindfulness meditation program produced by the Cleveland Clinic called Stress Free Now for Healers or to listen to relaxing music for at least 5 minutes a day for 6 weeks, and pre-post comparisons will be made for RNA expression profiles, plasma cytokine concentrations, telomerase activity, 6-point salivary cortisol and several self-reported assessments of physical and mental health.
Student Wellness Workshop Study
StressStress7 moreWhile efficacy of Sudarshan Kriya Yoga (SKY) has been demonstrated in a number of prior studies, little is known about the effects of SKY taught as part of the Your Enlightened Side (YESplus) workshop designed for college students. Thus, this study aims to assess the effects of YESplus on well-being, including sleep patterns, and physiological stress response.
Familien-SCOUT: Comprehensive Support for Families With a Parent Suffering From Cancer
Families With Minor Children and One Parent Suffering From CancerWhen a parent with minor children falls ill with cancer, it is extremely stressful for all of the family members, including the partner and children. Familiar everyday routines are often disrupted even at an early stage, and for a prolonged period. Financial difficulties, the threat represented by the uncertain course of the disease, and worries about the children's future have a cumulative effect. The affected families are thereby pushed to their limits organizationally and emotionally. The burden involved tends to be underestimated, and secondary psychological conditions often develop among all the family members. They often do not have adequate access to support. The aim of this project is to establish a care management system that provides support for families with underage children in which one parent is seriously ill. In order to reduce the burden on families, "family SCOUTS" are to be used who can provide advice and information at an early stage. They are intended to encourage families to discuss things openly, and they should also facilitate access to all the support services available. The project will evaluate whether the use of family SCOUTS reduces the burden on the family in comparison with families who do not have a family SCOUT. For this purpose, investigations will be carried out before and after the family SCOUTS are deployed. Standardized questionnaires, interviews, and routine data from the participating health-insurance companies will provide the basic data.
The Effect of Walking Exercise on Sleep Quality in Sedentary Healthy Adults
WalkingSleep5 moreThe primary goal of this study is to examine the effect of one-hour walking exercise on sleep quality in adults. The second goal of this study is to explore a feasible exercise method to promote sleep quality to all age groups, in order to improve sleep quality in overall population. The study attempts to unfold how the daily exercise, such as walking, benefits sleep quality. This study hypothesis that one-hour walking improves sleep quality in general population.
Biological Response to Brief Psychological Challenge
Acute Inflammatory Response to Psychological StressThe investigators plan to conduct a crossover experimental trial examining physiological responses to a socio-evaluative speech task under laboratory conditions. Participants will attend two laboratory sessions. At one session participants will take part in a brief laboratory stress task and at the other participants will rest for the same period. Measures of cardiovascular response will be assessed at both sessions. In addition, blood will be drawn at multiple time points across a 125 minute period to assess changes in circulating levels of cortisol, catecholamines, markers of inflammation and cell free mitochondrial DNA in response to the task. The investigators expect that the stress task will induce a specific increase in ccf-mtDNA, which will statistically mediate subsequent peak circulating Interleukin-6 and Tumor Necrosis Factor-α levels. In secondary analyses, the investigators will examine whether stress-induced increases in circulating cortisol, epinephrine, and norepinephrine levels correlate with increases in ccf-mtDNA. These studies will establish the kinetics and magnitude of psychological stress-induced ccf-mtDNA release, the association with early stress mediators, and whether ccf-mtDNA mediates the inflammatory response to acute stress in humans.
Maternal Emotions and Diet in Pregnancy
Pregnancy RelatedStress2 moreThis study seeks to understand how a mother's emotional state in pregnancy influences her biological response to food intake.
RISE Program for Nurses
StressPsychologicalThe purpose of this study is to determine whether the RISE program has a significant impact on nurses' resilience, insight, self-compassion, and empowerment, as well as mental and physical well-being, in their personal lives and their working environment.
