Cardiopulmonary Complication in Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Haemorrhage Patients

Aneurysmal Subarachnoid HeamorrhageNontraumatic Subarachnoid Haemorrhage

This is a prospective cohort study investigating cardiac function and cardiac biomarkers in patients with acute Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Haemorrhage (aSAH). The aims of the study are to document the incidence of myocardial dysfunction,to find the predictive factors of myocardial dysfunction, describe heart rate variability and to assess the impact of all cardiac problems on morbidity and mortality.

Amnesia After Surgery for Anterior Communicating Aneurysm: High Resolution Magnetic Resonance (MR)...

Subarachnoid HemorrhageCerebral Aneurysm1 more

To clarify whether amnesia after treatment of anterior communicating aneurysm (ACoA)is related to infarcts caused by occlusion or damage of the perforating artery of the ACoA, we used 3.0-T 3D high resolution MR imaging to identify and localize infarcts in patients with amnesia following treatment of ACoA aneurysm.

Mechanical Ventilation in Brain-injured Patients

Brain-injuryStroke3 more

Protective ventilation (association of a tidal volume < 8 ml/kg with a positive end expiratory pressure) is poorly used in severe brain-injured patients. Moreover, a systematic approach to extubation may decrease the rate of extubation failure and enhance outcomes of brain-injured patients. We hypothesized that medical education and implementation of an evidence-base care bundle associating protective ventilation and systemic approach to extubation can reduce the duration of mechanical ventilation in brain-injured patients.

Cerebral Blood Flow (CBF) Disturbances Following Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Subarachnoid Hemorrhage...

Traumatic Brain InjurySubarachnoid Hemorrhage

It is a "proof of concept" study, aimed to evaluate whether the "optimal CPP", defined by the best PRx, corresponds to the acceptable CBF values in patients affected by CBF disfunction caused by TBI or SAH.

Venous and Cerebral Glucose Microdialysis in Neurocritical Care: Validation & Correlation

Traumatic Brain InjuryAcquired Brain Injury3 more

This study evaluates the validity of an intravascular continuous glucose monitoring microdialysis probe, and compares the values to routinely inserted cerebral glucose microdialysis to evaluate the hypothesised relationship between intracranial and intravascular glucose levels.

SouthErn China REgisTry for Stroke on Traditional Chinese Medicine

StrokeCerebral Infarction3 more

Stroke is the first most common cause of death in China and one of the major causes of functional disability in the adult population. The burden of stoke is significantly increased in China in recent years. In order to investigate the prognosis of stroke, with diagnostic and treatment information of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and assess the effectiveness and safety of TCM for stroke in southern China, the investigators will conduct this multicenter prospective registry study in southern China. This study will recruit 10,000 consecutive eligible patients with acute stroke from more than 50 hospitals. 24 months follow-up will be carried out on-site in hospitals and by telephone to track endpoint (including all-cause mortality, composite cerebrovascular and cardiovascular events at one and two year follow up, and neurological and functional assessments).

Vitamin D Effect on Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

Vitamin D Deficiency

Vitamin D has been promoted to vascular regeneration in non-cerebral arteries because of its anti-inflammatory properties. Cerebral vasospasm (CVS) as the most feared complication after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), correlated with higher mortality and poor outcome, is the result of a multifactorial mechanism with inflammation as one of the main role players. The investigators therefore hypothesized that vitamin D attenuates cerebral vasospasm and increases the chance for favorable outcome after SAH.

Understanding the Role of Autoimmune Disorders on the Initial Presentation of Cardiovascular Disease...

Myocardial InfarctionIschemic Stroke9 more

Autoimmune diseases are diseases in which inappropriate immune responses that have the capability of harming host cells play an important role. Evidence suggests that the presence of certain autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis or systematic lupus erythematosus increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, this evidence is inconsistent for autoimmune disorders and no systematic approach has been previously used to study the relationship between a range of common autoimmune disorders and specific forms of cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction, intracerebral and subarachnoid haemorrhage, or venous thrombosis. The investigators will use linked electronic health records to investigate whether commonly diagnosed autoimmune disorders are associated with increased risk of CVD development and whether effects differ in men and women and change with age.
