Evolution of Psychoactive Substances Consumption in Connection With COVID-19 Containment

AddictionSubstance1 more

The current containment linked to COVID-19 will have consequences for people suffering from addiction and there is a risk of overdoses when the containment ends. So the investigators hypothesize that this health crisis is an opportunity to develop risk reduction and access to care for vulnerable people who lives with an addiction. The main objective of this study is to describe the changes in the psychoactive substances consumption during the containment in people suffering from addiction. The secondary objectives are to describe the evolution at 1 month from the end of the containment of problematic consumption and the level of access to care of these users

Family Members Affected by Substance Use Disorder - a Follow-up Study

Caregiver Burden

The present study registration relates to a quantitative sub-study of a larger mixed method study, including also a qualitative sub-study. Together, these investigations will provide complementary insights. The quantitative study is a follow-up study of close relatives (> 16 years) of patients in treatment for substance use disorder (SUD) who participated in a group-based 4-day psychoeducational program.

Exploring Medically Perceived Benefits, Use and Interest in Psychedelics and Cannabinoids

PTSDAnxiety6 more

The primary objective of this study is to collect insights from first responders and military personnel on their need for, use of, and interest in physical and/or mental health medical marijuana or psychedelic-assisted therapy programs. These preliminary data will help to inform and guide the development of a larger patient-oriented study and the design of a clinical program geared towards enhancing therapy treatments for first responders and military personnel.

Drug Abuse Among Elective Surgeries: an Observational Study.

Drug Abuse

Drug abusers and addicts form a challenge to the anesthetist because of the added potential risks involved in the administration of anesthesia to this subset of patients, including potential unforeseen drug-drug interactions. In this study, we aimed at screening all patients scheduled for elective orthopedic or general surgeries at the Cairo University Teaching Hospital during a set period of time for the most commonly abused drugs in Egypt.

Personality Disorders and Substance Use Disorders in a Sexual Context in the Man Having Sex With...

Substance Use Disorders

Chemsex refers to the use of psychoactive drugs in a sexual context, mainly cathinones, GHB/GBL, methamphetamine, cocaine and ketamine. This can cause infectious or psychiatric complications, addictions, and often goes with high risk sexual behaviours. Recent studies have highlighted the relationship between personality disorders, substance use disorders and risky sexual behaviours. It is important to understand the factors associated with chemsex in order to offer adapted prevention and care plans. The study hypothesis is that personality disorders, evaluated with the PDQ-4+ questionnaire, are more frequent among man having sex with other men with a substance use disorder linked to chemsex than among man having sex with other men who have never practised chemsex.

Study of Structural Imaging

Background: The way alcohol affects brain structure has been widely studied. But the way it affects all parts of the brain is still unknown. Researchers want to use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans to study brain structure and function. They hope this will help them better understand changes that happen in brain regions during treatment of alcohol use disorders. Objectives: To study changes in the brain by using MRI in people with and without alcohol use disorders. To study how brain changes affect gait, balance, cognitive ability, and behavior. To see how the brain recovers when alcohol use stops. Eligibility: People with alcohol dependence who are currently hospitalized in a particular unit at NIH. Healthy volunteers 30 60 years old without an alcohol use disorder. Design: Participants will be screened under a separate protocol. Participants will give a urine sample for a drug test and pregnancy test at each study visit. They will also have to pass a breath alcohol test. At the first visit, participants will have an MRI. The scanner is a metal cylinder in a strong magnetic field. Participants will lie on a table that slides in and out of the cylinder. They will do behavior and memory tasks outside the scanner. They will have gait and balance tested. They will have to stand on both legs, stand on just one leg, and walk in a straight line. They will perform each task with eyes open, then with eyes closed. They will have tests of memory, thinking, and problem solving. Some participants will have a second visit. They will have another MRI and repeat some of the behavior and memory tasks.

A Phased-Implementation Feasibility and Proof-of-Concept Study to Assess Incorporating the NIDA...

Substance Abuse

This is a 4-phase study to implement the NIDA (Common Data Elements) Common Data Elements (CDEs) in primary care settings. The study will be conducted at three adult primary care clinics, in two large health systems. Each phase will include deliverables essential to move to the next phase, and an independent Advisory Committee will review progress and make recommendations at each transition about how best to progress to each subsequent phase. Based on progress during earlier phases, the Advisory Committee may recommend expansion to additional clinics or health systems during the second part of Phase 4. Phase 2 prepares for implementation of the screening and CDS tools as part of routine clinical practice. A key component of this phase is tailoring the screening and CDS tools through an iterative process of usability testing and adaptation of their design. In the KTA framework, this phase corresponds to the 'select, tailor, and implement interventions' step. Simultaneously, investigators will plan for implementation in one clinic of the MSHS system by identifying clinical champions, educating clinic leadership and staff, and conducting a workflow analysis to identify barriers and facilitators of implementation.
